{"id":250695,"date":"2026-01-18T05:58:21","date_gmt":"2026-01-18T05:58:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/250695\/"},"modified":"2026-01-18T05:58:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-18T05:58:21","slug":"ministers-not-in-payment-plan-unjustifiable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/250695\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministers not in payment plan &#8216;unjustifiable&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ten government ministers still do not have a repayment plan in place after they were overpaid following errors around their pension deductions.<\/p>\n<p>The revelation was this evening described as unacceptable by the Sinn F\u00e9in spokesperson on Finance, Pearse Doherty.<\/p>\n<p>It followed confirmation by Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers that there are still ten ministers who must put a plan in place to repay the money after overpayments came to light last year.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Chambers told the Oireachtas Finance Committee that these ministers are engaging with the National Shared Services Office.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister said that another 24 ministers have either received refunds or they have entered into repayment plans.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have just learnt that ten ministers who were overpaid by as much as tens of thousands of euros are still not even in a repayment plan to reimburse Revenue,&#8221; said Mr Doherty.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These are people who are earning in excess of \u20ac200,000 and the same ministers that voted to leave workers and families worse off in this year&#8217;s budget.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is unjustifiable for ministers to not be in a repayment plan.
