She was found on Pearse Street at about 12.30pm. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">She had been sleeping in and living out of a tent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/social-affairs\/2026\/01\/02\/new-record-high-of-almost-17000-homeless-including-5321-children\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Record high of almost 17,000 homeless, including 5,321 childrenOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Garda\u00ed said they had assisted emergency services at the scene of a \u201cmedical incident\u201d on Pearse Street, Dublin 2, on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It is understood the deceased, who is believed to have been in her 30s, was brought to St James\u2019s Hospital. She was subsequently pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Keira Gill, founder of homeless organisation A Lending Hand, a Dublin-based volunteer outreach group which has been operating for more than a decade, described the woman as \u201calways being as happy as she could, being so polite and very grateful\u201d for any help they gave her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cOur condolences to all her family, friends and homeless family. We knew her well and she came to us, we were very fond of her and are heartbroken to hear she has passed away, her pals on the streets are devastated,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ms Gill added that the Government needed to \u201cseriously look at the reasons why a vulnerable homeless woman felt safer in a tent than the accommodation on offer. Putting groups of grown women in a room together is never going to work without the right on-site supports.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Tributes were being paid on a GoFundMe page set up by family and friends to help her family with funeral costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The organiser said she \u201cpassed away suddenly\u201d, leaving the family \u201clost.
