The Department of Transport is facing calls to include funding for a stretch of road into Cork city<\/a> in a series of road maintenance works announcements due to be made in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

Sinn F\u00e9in councillor Joe Lynch claimed a significant section of the N22 Carrigrohane (Straight) Road is “appalling” and is once again calling on the department to address the issue.<\/p>\n

Cllr Lynch said: “The road surface of the N22 Carrigrohane\/Straight Road – from Leemount junction at Carrigrohane as far as Grassland Agro – is in an appalling condition, and has been for a number of years now. This is one of the main roads in and out of Cork City, and a section of it resembles a motocross track. It is an embarrassment and it is dangerous.<\/p>\n

“I have written to Transport Infrastructure Ireland on the matter continuously, and I sincerely hope that resurfacing works will be funded this year.”<\/p>\n

Cork City Council<\/a> responded to a motion proposed by the Sinn F\u00e9in politician in September, saying that repair work was expected to be carried out in 2026, subject to funding.<\/p>\n

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) told Cllr that it had highlighted the need for the road to be fixed directly to the Department of Transport.<\/p>\n

He added: “It is now over to the Department, and the Minister for Transport, to ensure these works are funded in 2026. This must happen.
