Liverpool have missed out on Marc Guehi to Man City<\/a> and it would not be a surprise if his huge wages were a reason why they opted not to sign him.<\/p>\n

Guehi was agonisingly close to joining the Reds last summer, agreeing a \u00a335 million move and undergoing a medical on deadline day.<\/p>\n

Crystal Palace<\/a> pulled out at the 11th hour, however, deciding they didn\u2019t have time to find a suitable replacement, and he has stayed put for the time being.<\/p>\n

He is now set to join Man City<\/a> this month, however, with an initial \u00a320 million deal agreed which could rise to around \u00a330 million including add-ons, per talkSPORT<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Not only that, but the 25-year-old\u2019s five-and-a-half-year deal at the Etihad will be worth \u00a3300,000 per week, with his medical taking place on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Guehi\u2019s eye-watering wages at City highlight the money they are willing to pay new signings compared to Liverpool, which always made them a threat in the race to sign him.<\/p>\n

For the Reds to pay a player \u00a3300,000 per week, it would need to be a world-class individual capable of being a game-changing addition.<\/p>\n

Mohamed Salah<\/a> and Virgil van Dijk<\/a> are Liverpool\u2019s two highest earners after signing new deals last summer, taking home \u00a3480,000 a week (including bonuses) and \u00a3385,000 a week respectively.<\/p>\n

Alexander Isak<\/a> is next on the list, paid \u00a3300,000 a week after becoming the club\u2019s most expensive signing in history.<\/p>\n

So Guehi\u2019s Man City<\/a> salary would make him Liverpool\u2019s joint-third highest earner.<\/p>\n

It is a blow for Liverpool to miss out on the Palace captain, considering he is arguably England\u2019s best centre-back heading into the 2026 World Cup this summer.<\/p>\n

But matching City\u2019s wages would arguably be a reckless approach, rather than their more measured one over the past decade, with other top-quality options out there.<\/p>\n
