A total of 25 non-Irish sex offenders have been removed from Ireland<\/a> since 2025, following an ongoing “critical” Garda operation.<\/p>\n

An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na, through the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB), carried out Operation Moonridge in 2025 which identified and deported non-Irish nationals convicted of sexual crimes.<\/p>\n

The operation involves identifying and locating convicted sex offenders of interest to GNIB for consideration for an EU Removal Order or deportation.<\/p>\n

As part of this operation to date, a total of 25 sex offenders have now been removed from the State.<\/p>\n

This consists of 14 non-EU nationals and 11 EU nationals who are now all subject to exclusion periods from Ireland.<\/p>\n

Minister for Justice\u00a0Jim O\u2019Callaghan has welcomed the significant progress of this ongoing “critical” operation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis work being undertaken by specialised units within An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na is critical for the protection of people and for building public confidence in Ireland\u2019s immigration system.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am implementing a rules-based migration system which means if a person commits serious offences while in the State, that person will be caught and removed.<\/p>\n

\u201cOperation Moonridge involves extensive information sharing between the Garda National Immigration Bureau and a number of key agencies, including the Garda National Protective Services Bureau, the Garda Sex Offenders Management Intelligence Unit (SOMIU) and units within my Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration. I commend all these agencies involved in this significant work.\u201d<\/p>\n

By using information provided by these bodies, GNIB identifies, targets and removes individuals who have committed sexual offences and do not have a lawful basis to remain in the State.<\/p>\n

Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs Colm Brophy added,<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a key priority for me that people who hold an immigration permission who are involved in criminality and who pose a danger to society are removed from Ireland.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe enforcement aspect of our immigration laws are essential to ensure that our communities are kept safe.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to acknowledge the hard work of both An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na and officials from my Department who work together tirelessly to ensure that such people are removed from the State.\u201d<\/p>\n

Operation Moonridge remains ongoing and An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na continues to work closely with the Department of Justice in implementing immigration policy.<\/p>\n
