Meta<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0new artificial intelligence lab has reportedly delivered its first AI models internally.<\/p>\n

Andrew Bosworth<\/a>, the company\u2019s chief technology officer,\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0Reuters Wednesday (Jan. 21) that the models created by Meta\u2019s Superintelligence Labs team showed promise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re basically six months into the work, not quite even,\u201d said Bosworth, who spoke with Reuters at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He added that the team\u2019s AI models were \u201cvery good.\u201d<\/p>\n

The news follows reports from last month that Meta was developing a\u00a0text AI model<\/a>\u00a0codenamed Avocado scheduled for a first-quarter debut, as well as a n image and video-focused model codenamed Mango. Bosworth did not specify which models were delivered, Reuters added.<\/p>\n

The report notes that Meta\u2019s AI efforts are being watched closely in the wake of CEO Mark Zuckerberg\u2019s moves in the last year, which saw the company\u00a0overhaul its AI leadership<\/a>, start a new lab and recruit talent with\u00a0multi-million dollar compensation offers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meta, Reuters added, has been criticized for the performance of its Llama 4 model amid launches by rivals such as Google. Bosworth told the news outlet that the technology was still being worked on.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a tremendous amount of work to do post-training\u201d for AI, \u201cto actually deliver the model in a way that\u2019s usable internally and by consumers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Bosworth\u2019s comments came a little more than a week after reports that Meta was planning to cut 10% of the jobs in its 15,000-person Reality Labs unit, part of a larger plan to shift its focus on virtual reality products as it concentrates on other AI wearables.<\/p>\n

Writing about Meta\u2019s AI projects last year, PYMNTS\u00a0contrasted<\/a> the company\u2019s efforts\u00a0with those of rivals\u00a0Amazon<\/a>,\u00a0Google<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Microsoft<\/a>. Where those companies pair their AI investments with clear paths to revenue, Meta has concentrated on building for internal use.<\/p>\n

The report cited the example of Microsoft monetizing OpenAI\u2019s models via subscriptions to Azure and Copilot, and Google selling Gemini and Vertex AI access through its cloud division, while also building a burgeoning TPU business. And Amazon\u2019s Bedrock and SageMaker platforms transform infrastructure into recurring enterprise revenue.<\/p>\n
