The crash happened on the N5 near Scramogue<\/p>\n
One woman has died, and another person has been injured in a tragic road collision between an SUV and a truck in Roscommon.<\/p>\n
The accident happened on the N5, near Scramogue, shortly after 5pm this evening.<\/p>\n
The woman who was travelling as a passenger in the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene.<\/p>\n
Her body was removed to the morgue where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.<\/p>\n
The driver of the SUV, a woman in her 70s, was transferred by air ambulance to University Hospital Galway for treatment of serious injuries.<\/p>\n
No other injuries were reported.<\/p>\n

It is understood the vehicles were travelling in opposite directions.<\/p>\n
The road is closed and expected to remain so until tomorrow pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.<\/p>\n

Garda\u00ed are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.<\/p>\n
Local Councillor Sean Moylan described the incident as a \u201chorrendous tragedy\u201d.<\/p>\n
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic road death of an elderly woman in our community. Every life lost on our roads is one too many.<\/p>\n
“My thoughts are with her loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. And my thoughts and prayers are with the survivors of this horrible accident.<\/p>\n
“I would also like to express sincere thanks to the emergency services who responded swiftly and professionally to this tragic road accident.<\/p>\n
