Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco tied the knot in September 2025.Her friend and co-star Martin Short shared a new story about how he almost ruined the couple’s wedding cake by cutting into it.Luckily, the wedding coordinator and chef were able to put it back together.<\/p>\n

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco<\/a> tied the knot<\/a> in a star-studded ceremony<\/a> back in September 2025\u2014and amongst the celeb guests was Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short. Gomez previously joked that Short would play a key role in the proceedings as her ring bearer<\/a>. She also shared onThe Drew Barrymore Show that \u201cMarty is due to give a speech<\/a>. I told him he must.\u201d But as it turns out, Short’s involvement in the wedding ended up being a near-disaster\u2014for the funniest reason.\n<\/p>\n

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/a>, the actor recounted a story about how he nearly ruined the couple’s wedding cake. As he explained, he was sitting at a table with a group of people from Only Murders in the Building.\n<\/p>\n

“There was a cake, a wedding cake, by our section, but it was a small wedding cake,” Short explained. “I just assumed there was a wedding cake for each section in the back.”<\/p>\n

Steve Martin, who also stars in the show, had to leave the party a little early and Short offered to cut him a slice of cake. “Maybe I\u2019d had a cocktail. I had a fork in my hand. I said, \u2018Steve, you can\u2019t leave yet without a piece of wedding cake!\u2019 and I cut the wedding cake with one side, cut it the other, and then all the people in our group screamed, \u2018Marty!\u2019” It turned out, he had sliced into the one and only wedding cake.\n<\/p>\n

Although Short tried to fix it “with a fork,” it was the chef who \u201cdid surgery\u201d on the cake so that it was good as new. It was a \u201cHollywood wedding cake in that it was beautiful, but now it had a little work done,” Short joked.\n<\/p>\n
