\n\tOn Thursday, Sentimental Value<\/a> star Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/a> made history as the first to receive a Supporting Actor nomination for a performance in an international film. Speaking to Deadline shortly after the news broke, Skarsg\u00e5rd said he hadn\u2019t realized the category-shaking factor of his nomination.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe also said he was pleased that the film\u2019s nine nominations will allow the film\u2019s \u2018family\u2019 to stick together on their campaign trail for a little longer. \u201cIt means that we will keep together the traveling circus that we\u2019ve been doing now for six months,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\n\tHe had not, however, yet had a chance to speak to his fellow nominees. \u201cMy phone is blocked [with calls and texts],\u201d he said, with a laugh. \u201cIt\u2019s horrible. There are people dinging all the time.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u2018Sentimental Value\u2019s nine Oscar nominations include Best Picture, International Film, Directing and Screenplay for Joachim Trier<\/a>, Lead Actress for Renate Reinsve, Supporting Actress for Inga Ibsdotter Lillieaas and Elle Fanning<\/a>, and Editing for Olivier Bugge Cout\u00e9.<\/p>\n

\n\tSkarsgard has previously discussed the challenges of returning to work following his 2022 stroke. Has this Oscar nomination helped him feel that things are back on track? \u201cYeah of course it has,\u201d he said. \u201cI had a lot of doubts after the stroke. I did the second season of Andor and I did the second Dune afterwards. it was like balancing on a knife edge because I had to have a new way of working with prompters and stuff\u2026 I\u2019m still working on it. But I\u2019m glad that the core of the acting, the important thing, the essence of it, obviously survived.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAsked how he\u2019s enjoyed campaigning alongside his son Alexander Skarsg\u00e5rd, who has the film Pillion in awards contention this season, the elder Skarsg\u00e5rd said, \u201cIt\u2019s been so much fun. I\u2019m sorry he\u2019s not doing the campaign fully for Pillion. I mean, it\u2019s such a good film, but also, we had a lot of fun and we met in several cities and several festivals and stuff, with the start in Telluride.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued, \u201cWe will now see if we\u2019re that generous when it comes to the BAFTAs where I and Alexander are up against each other!\u201d Next week, the BAFTA nominations will be announced and it might just be that the Skarsg\u00e5rds are in direct competition. Both are currently long-listed in Supporting Actor. \u201cThere will be blood,\u201d he said, with a chuckle.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for what he is considering next, Skarsg\u00e5rd said, \u201cI\u2019m reading scripts now, and there are some that are a little more interesting than others, but it\u2019s not a sort of a shower of talented scripts coming over me. But I\u2019m patient.
