Sequels are something that audiences are almost always genuinely excited about, and Khosla Ka Ghosla 2 is certainly one of them. With Anupam Kher<\/a> recently sharing pictures from the film\u2019s set, anticipation around the sequel is steadily building, and fans have already started showering love. Actor Parvinn Dabass<\/a>, who plays Anupam Kher\u2019s son Cherry Ghosla in the film, opened up about revisiting one of Hindi cinema\u2019s most loved worlds, the legacy of the original film, and why this sequel feels both exciting and deeply emotional.<\/p>\n

In a candid conversation with Hindustan Times, Parvinn reflected on cult fandom, iconic dialogues, memorable behind-the-scenes moments, and his personal journey with the film that remains a landmark in his career.<\/p>\n

On why Khosla Ka Ghosla deserved a sequel<\/p>\n

Parvin believes some stories naturally call for continuation. \u201cI\u2019ve always felt that there are certain films where you want to see the characters grow,\u201d he says. \u201cSo there was excitement, but also curiosity, because it\u2019s such a cult film. The audience also wants the sequel to live up to the original, and that responsibility is always there,\u201d he said when asked about his reaction to the sequel.<\/p>\n

On the enduring love for the film<\/p>\n

More than a decade later, the affection for Khosla Ka Ghosla remains unmatched, and the sequel has already got fans buzzing with excitement. Talking about the buzz, Parvin said, \u201cIt\u2019s incredible to see the kind of love it still gets. People are genuinely excited to see the characters again and to understand their progression. Even today, people tell us they\u2019ve watched the film 10\u201315 times. They remember the dialogues. It\u2019s like a community now, and that\u2019s really amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Khosla Ka Ghosla being ahead of its time<\/p>\n

According to Parvinn, the film\u2019s timelessness is key to its longevity. \u201cIt was way ahead of its time, and that\u2019s why it has lasted so long. It\u2019s also a very timeless film,\u201d he explains. \u201cSome dialogues like \u2018Party or Broker\u2019 have become part of the cultural legacy. They\u2019re used casually in everyday conversations now.\u201d<\/p>\n

On playing the \u2018strong and silent\u2019 son<\/p>\n

For Parvinn, the film was also deeply personal. \u201cMy character was very different from the rest of the family. He was the introvert, the fish out of water,\u201d he says. \u201cHe didn\u2019t have too many funny lines, but he was the strong, silent one. It was very much about the father-son relationship, so I had to approach it in a deeper way. There was a lot of work involved, and it was an amazing process. I\u2019m grateful that the work was appreciated.\u201d<\/p>\n

He adds, \u201cIt became one of my landmark films. Even today, people recognise me for it. I feel fortunate to have not one, but two cult films to my credit\u2014Monsoon Wedding and Khosla Ka Ghosla. Both films, in their own way, changed Indian cinema and took it forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

What to expect from Khosla Ka Ghosla 2<\/p>\n

Parvinn assures fans that the sequel stays true to its roots. \u201cIt\u2019s a very fresh script. The characterisation remains the same, but the journey is new,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s exciting, it\u2019s fun, and it\u2019s also going to be an emotional ride.\u201d<\/p>\n

On fond memories from the original shoot<\/p>\n

Some of Parvinn\u2019s best memories are from off set. \u201cAnupam ji always kept everyone together,\u201d he recalls warmly. \u201cWe used to play word games on set, and we still do it now. It has become a tradition now.\u201d<\/p>\n

On almost not being cast in the film<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Parvinn reveals that director Dibakar Banerjee was initially not keen on casting him. \u201cDibakar didn\u2019t think I would be appropriate for the role,\u201d he says candidly. \u201cIt was the assistant director who suggested my name. I auditioned, and then they disappeared for three months. They auditioned many others and couldn\u2019t decide.\u201d<\/p>\n

When they finally called him back, Dibakar was blunt. \u201cHe told me, \u2018I wasn\u2019t in favour of casting you. I don\u2019t think you can do the role, but Jatin insisted I meet you.\u2019 I said, \u2018Thanks for doing me the favour,\u2019\u201d Parvinn laughs. After an improv session, everything changed. \u201cAfter five or six minutes, Dibakar said, \u2018I haven\u2019t seen a character like this before, but now that you\u2019ve performed it this way, this is how I see the character\u2014and I want you to do it.\u2019 I joked that I\u2019d think about it, but of course, I went ahead and did it.\u201d<\/p>\n

On reuniting with Anupam Kher and Boman Irani<\/p>\n

Parvinn speaks highly of his co-stars. \u201cI\u2019ve stayed in touch with both Anupam ji and Boman Irani. I\u2019ve done a couple of films with Anupam ji, and it\u2019s always wonderful working with him,\u201d he says. \u201cThey\u2019re both fabulous actors. They push each other to do their best and also push everyone around them. There\u2019s always a great atmosphere of learning and helping each other, and I feel lucky to be around them.\u201d<\/p>\n

On watching the film in theatres<\/p>\n

With strong anticipation surrounding the sequel, Parvinn feels it\u2019s a film meant for the big screen. \u201cThere\u2019s a huge amount of excitement, and that will make people want to come to theatres,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s a community film, you want to watch it with everyone. Khosla Ka Ghosla is the kind of film that should be experienced in a theatre. I believe it will once again be a path-breaker for slice-of-life films on the big screen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dibakar Banerjee\u2019s 2006 film Khosla Ka Ghosla was a critical and commercial success. Anupam Kher played Kamal Kishore Khosla, a middle-class Delhiite who, along with his family, tries to reclaim their land that has been seized by a builder, Khurana, essayed by Boman Irani. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
