The\u00a0(in-universe)\u00a0film adaptation of\u00a0\u2018Wonder Man\u2019\u00a0is the basis for much of the show\u2019s\u00a0winning\u00a0humour. Through this framing device, we\u00a0get an inside look at casting and auditioning processes and see how an actor\u2019s own ego can sometimes run wild. Much of this is bolstered by an excellent supporting cast:\u00a0X Mayo consistently amuses as Simon\u2019s agent Janelle, who is often irritated with her client but always loyal, and there are hilarious appearances by Joe Pantoliano and Josh Gad, who each play versions of themselves. Gad shows up in the standout fourth episode:\u00a0rendered\u00a0in black-and-white but set in modern times, its focus on Byron Bowers\u2019 DeMarr Davis\u00a0\u2014\u00a0a doorman\u00a0who gains powers along with fame\u00a0\u2014\u00a0is a comedic highlight.<\/p>\n
More than just the laughs,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0the sincerity of Simon and Trevor\u2019s respective journeys\u00a0\u2014\u00a0both individually and as a duo\u00a0\u2014\u00a0that sticks with you.<\/p>\n

And the genuine friendship that blossoms between them is delightful, with scenes where the pair are simply bonding over their favourite lines and acting experiences being some of the purest\u00a0and sweetest\u00a0in the entire MCU. In fact, the one time\u00a0that\u00a0Simon does flex his powers in a fight (in\u00a0Episode 5, the shortest and most inessential of the bunch), it\u00a0actually feels\u00a0a little out of place.<\/p>\n
