{"id":261765,"date":"2026-01-24T14:50:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T14:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/261765\/"},"modified":"2026-01-24T14:50:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-24T14:50:07","slug":"journalist-and-it-says-in-the-papers-presenter-on-rte-dies-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/261765\/","title":{"rendered":"journalist and It Says in the Papers presenter on RT\u00c9 dies \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Journalist Paddy Clancy, best known for presenting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/rte\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/rte\">RT\u00c9\u2019s<\/a> It Says in the Papers, has died aged 82.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A native of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/sligo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/sligo\">Sligo<\/a>, Mr Clancy\u2019s career covered more than six decades. He died peacefully yesterday at Sligo University Hospital surrounded by his family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mr Clancy worked for the Sligo Champion before working for the Donegal People\u2019s Press.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He was known for many years as the voice of RT\u00c9\u2019s Morning Ireland segment It Says in the Papers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">His career spanned 62 years, including working for the Sun and Mirror newspapers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He reported on many high-profile events through the years, including the 1972 Bloody Sunday events in Derry and the famine in Somalia in 1990.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In 2019 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the NewsBrands Ireland Journalism Awards for his extensive contribution to the industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In later life, he and his wife Bernie lived in Creevy, Ballyshannon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donegal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donegal\">Co Donegal<\/a>. Mr Clancy retired in the summer of 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">His funeral details have yet to be released.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Journalist Paddy Clancy, best known for presenting RT\u00c9\u2019s It Says in the Papers, has died aged 82.
