Jackie and Shadow, the much-adored Big Bear-based bald eagle couple whose nest is watched by countless observers across the world, welcomed their first egg\u00a0of 2026\u00a0on Friday!<\/p>\n

Friends of Big Bear Valley\u00a0(FOBBV)<\/a>, which\u00a0operates\u00a0the nest cameras and runs the Big Bear Eagle Log<\/a>, confirmed the delightful news, saying that Jackie showed the first signs of labor at 4:22 p.m.<\/p>\n

Five minutes later, she stood up, and five minutes after that, she laid the egg, FOBBV said.<\/p>\n

About 20 minutes after she first went into labor, Shadow popped by to see\u00a02026\u2019s first egg.<\/p>\n

SoCal\u2019s favorite bald eagle couple brought two healthy eaglets into the world last March<\/a>, and they were named Sunny and Gizmo<\/a> by the public. The two eventually fledged at the same time last June<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A third chick born last year who passed away in a snowstorm<\/a> had been named Misty after Friends of Big Bear Valley volunteer Kathi Misterly, who lost her life to cancer.<\/p>\n

Jackie and Shadow are the only known nesting pair of bald eagles who have been in the San Bernardino National Forest year-round since 2018, FOBBV says. <\/p>\n

The birds have an affinity for several different trees throughout Big Bear Valley, but the one they built their main nest in is a 145-foot Jeffrey Pine near Big Bear Lake.<\/p>\n
