\"'LostRenowned rapper Ye, who once went by Kanye West, has recently expressed regret over his controversial antisemitic comments, citing a past brain injury and his struggle with bipolar disorder as contributing factors. Kanye West, the American rapper and producer commonly known as Ye, has been at the centre of one of the most persistent controversies in recent pop culture and social media history. After years of offensive posts targeting Jewish people, he has issued a public apology and partly blamed an old brain injury for his behaviour, but the uproar over what he said and posted online continues.The row began in early 2022 when Ye made a series of offensive posts on X, which was called Twitter. One of the most widely condemned statements was his tweet that he was \u201cgoing death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE,\u201d a reference to the US military alert system. That post was seen as a threat and drew huge backlash as Ye is one of the most-streamed artists on earth.In the same period his X account was repeatedly suspended because his posts violated the platform\u2019s rules against incitement and hate speech. He also posted images combining a swastika with a Star of David and, at times, praised figures like fascist dictator Adolf Hitler in his online messages.These posts were not the only ones. Ye\u2019s remarks included blaming \u201cJewish media\u201d for various grievances and posting that he was a Nazi and that Hitler was \u201cfresh,\u201d which further enraged his fans, with many loyal ones unfollowing him.Several major companies, including Adidas, Gap, and Balenciaga, severed ties with him and withdrew business partnerships. His fashion brand Yeezy was also taken off some online platforms due to the offensive imagery and statements he had used in merchandise.After years of controversy, Ye has now taken out a full\u2011page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal addressed to \u201cThose I Hurt,\u201d in which he apologised for his actions. In that statement, he acknowledged that he \u201clost touch with reality\u201d during periods of erratic and offensive behaviour, and he linked much of it to a previously undiagnosed frontal\u2011lobe brain injury from a 2002 car accident. He suggested that this and his later bipolar disorder diagnosis contributed to his past actions.In his apology, Ye said he now seeks forgiveness and understanding, saying he no longer wishes to cause pain and that he is committed to treatment and accountability. He denied being a Nazi or an antisemite and expressed regret for the hurt he caused, particularly to Jewish and Black communities.Earlier apologies have come in different forms. In late 2023, he posted a message in Hebrew on Instagram to apologise to the Jewish community, saying he \u201cdeeply regret any pain I may have caused\u201d and committed to learning and promoting unity.Despite these statements, the public was not satisfied. Netizens questioned the sincerity of his apologies, especially given the severity and repetition of his earlier posts despite facing repeated backlash.
