{"id":265839,"date":"2026-01-27T04:12:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T04:12:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/265839\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T04:12:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T04:12:14","slug":"douglas-club-gears-up-for-the-new-playing-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/265839\/","title":{"rendered":"Douglas club gears up for the new playing season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">It may have been quiet for a few weeks but activity is starting to heat up again at Douglas GAA, LGFAc and Camogie Club.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Recently they confirmed their senior hurling and football management teams for 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Ken St Ledger, Vincent Hurley, and Teddy O\u2019Donovan will manage the hurling team and Conor Buckley, Paudie Kissane, and Mark Woods continue to manage the footballers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Club membership registration is now open, and the rates reflect the increases unanimously approved at the recent AGM. There is an extended four-month payment plan available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The club is also taking part in the Healthy Club Steps Challenge. So they are encouraging members to get their runners on, and keep moving. A spokesperson said: \u201cWe are neck and neck with Dohenys\/Sam Maguires. Let\u2019s keep up the good work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cFollowing our top three finish in 2025, we are looking to claim the top spot in the Healthy Club Steps Challenge this year. We need every team and every member tracking their steps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\n            \u201cThe challenge started on January 7 and ends at midnight on February 11. The goal is to reach 4,000km for our club to be entered into the provincial draw for a chance for the club to win \u20ac2,500.\u201d\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The club has also set up a weekly club walk, open to all members (U16s must be accompanied) on Saturdays at 10am, meet at the clubhouse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">There will be 3km and 6km routes and all are welcome, meet at the astro pitch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The Dougout will be open so you can call for a cuppa and a chat after your walk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The underage and adult sections of their ladies football section came together recently at the Rochestown Park Hotel to celebrate the events of 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cWith team bonding to the forefront we heard from some of the wonderful Cork Ladies football minor All Ireland winning panel . Ladies Football Hall of fame winner and Cork football legend Juliet Murphy had some very inspirational words of wisdom for our players, parents and mentors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cA special thanks to all the local businesses who supplied prizes for the raffle on the night.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">STREET LEAGUES<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The club will hold a Street Leagues Open Day on Saturday next, January 31, from 10am to 12pm at the GAA sports hall for new starters, including all children (boys and girls) born on or after 2021. They look forward to welcoming all newcomers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Street Leagues will be restarting on February 7. Please contact co-ordinators for time and location. They will also hold their Ryan\u2019s SuperValu Underage Boys Awards Night on Saturday next, January 31, from 5-7pm followed by finger food and the showing of the Cork v Galway, hurling league match.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Their fundraising Lotto jackpot now stands at \u20ac2,950 and the second prize is \u20ac2,500.
