{"id":266038,"date":"2026-01-27T06:42:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T06:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/266038\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T06:42:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T06:42:09","slug":"ireland-to-benefit-from-north-sea-clean-energy-reservoir-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/266038\/","title":{"rendered":"Ireland to benefit from North Sea clean energy \u2018reservoir\u2019 \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ireland has signed up to a pan-European pact aimed at turning the North Sea into the world\u2019s largest reservoir of clean, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/renewable-energy\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/renewable-energy\/\">green energy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Minister for Energy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/darragh-obrien\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/darragh-obrien\">Darragh O\u2019Brien<\/a>, signed a declaration in Hamburg, Germany, following a high-level gathering on boosting co-operation and planning for offshore wind energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He said Ireland was well located to benefit from the new plans to deliver wind energy at scale, and would benefit greatly from plans for greater co-ordination and planning of interconnectors to boost European energy sharing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThese summits are critically important so that we can co-ordinate better in supply chain and planning,\u201d said Mr O\u2019Brien. \u201cIt is about the State partnering with the private sector to deliver clean, green renewable energy &#8230; and offshore is how we can take a massive step forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Under the pact, the governments of Ireland, the UK, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Norway promise to collectively support private sector investments to build 5GW of offshore wind capacity every year between 2031 and 2040.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In Hamburg, more than 100 private sector wind energy companies signed up to a plan which its signatories say will reduce existing costs in the field and create 91,000 jobs.
