Chris Evans’ Avengers: Doomsday<\/a> return has been addressed by another Marvel Cinematic Universe<\/a> after the move was finally revealed. Evans’ latest appearance in the franchise came in one of the MCU’s best movies<\/a>, 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. However, the actor played a version of the Fantastic Four’s Johnny Storm on that occasion, not Captain America, continuing his pre-MCU Marvel run.<\/p>\n

For years, Evans has been rumored to return to the MCU’s slate of projects<\/a> as Steve Rogers, with reports claiming that the actor had signed to return to the MCU as early as 2021. However, Evans vehemently debunked the rumors and reports every time he was asked. Recently, the first look at Avengers: Doomsday’s story<\/a>, a Steve Rogers-focused teaser, confirmed Evans’ role in Avengers: Doomsday.<\/p>\n

Now, speaking to E! News<\/a>, MCU Gambit star Channing Tatum dodged a question about Chris Evans’ Captain America return in Avengers: Doomsday.<\/p>\n

When asked about Evans’ MCU return, Tatum said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Even though Evans was revealed to appear in the upcoming Marvel movie, it seems like the franchise’s stars remain afraid of revealing any potential spoilers about one of the MCU’s most important films. Evans’ return was revealed in the first Avengers: Doomsday teaser, which was released in theaters with Avatar: Fire and Ash. The footage showed Steve Rogers in the same home he was last seen dancing with Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter in Avengers: Endgame. Steve is shown putting away his Captain America suit in a box, with the trailer revealing that he and Peggy had a baby.<\/p>\n

The Captain America teaser was the first of four trailers released one year before the MCU’s next Avengers movie. The second trailer focused on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, while the third brought back three of Fox’s X-Men, and the fourth Doomsday teaser united Wakandans and the Fantastic Four. A full Avengers: Doomsday trailer could debut during the Super Bowl on February 8.<\/p>\n

Speaking to ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley<\/a> on June 9, 2025, Chris Evans claimed he would not appear in Avengers: Doomsday, saying, “It’s sad to not be back with the band, but I’m sure they’re doing something incredible.” Since his return was confirmed by Marvel, Evans has yet to break his silence about playing Captain America again.<\/p>\n

However, the Russo Brothers, who directed Evans in two Captain America movies and two Avengers films, claimed when sharing the Steve Rogers trailer online that “it was always going to come back to this.” Recently, the Russos revealed that Evans’ Captain America has a central role in Avengers: Doomsday<\/a>.
