Netflix\u2019s documentary re-examining the legacy of America\u2019s Next Top Model is drawing early criticism from one famous former contestant: Adrianne Curry.<\/p>\n
The upcoming three-part series \u2014 Reality Check: Inside America\u2019s Next Top Model \u2014 features the show\u2019s former producers and judges, including Tyra Banks, re-examining the long-running reality hit and reflecting on the show\u2019s many controversies.<\/p>\n

But Curry, who won the show\u2019s debut season in 2003, posted on social media that she declined to take part in the documentary and finds judging the show by current standards \u201cabsurd.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI think people psychoanalyzing it over 20 years later with a woke lens is absurd,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n
Curry also said she refused to participate in the documentary, though for different reasons.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t trust people to not manipulate things I say for TV so I decline everything,\u201d Curry wrote. \u201cAlso, the public is cult-like and cruel, so the last thing I want is a bunch of eyeballs on me \u2026 I have [zero] trust in any producers, no desire to be really public in this day and age \u2026 and am hard retired from Hollywood.\u201d<\/p>\n
Curry also replied to a fan who wrote<\/a>, \u201cIt\u2019s crazy that [photo shoot director Jay Manuel and runway coach J. Alexander] are acting like they can NOT believe the things Tyra was doing, but they were involved just the same,\u201d and Curry replied, \u201cIt\u2019s a cover up fest. Let \u2019em weave their webs.\u201d<\/p>\n In the trailer for Reality Check, Banks says, \u201cI knew I went too far \u2026 it was very intense, but you guys were demanding it.\u201d Fellow host Nigel Barker says, \u201cIt was wrong and for some reason no one seemed to see it \u2026 we felt betrayed.\u201d And Manuel says, \u201cI realized Tyra would do anything for the success of her show.\u201d<\/p>\n The show had a history of models saying consent wasn\u2019t given during certain physical interactions with male models and repeated instances of fat shaming.<\/p>\n The project is from EverWonder Studio, Wise Child Studios and directors Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan (American Manhunt: Osama Bin Laden).<\/p>\n Reality Check drops on Netflix on Feb. 16.<\/p>\n Best of The Hollywood Reporter<\/p>\n Sign up for THR’s Newsletter<\/a>.
