{"id":267143,"date":"2026-01-27T21:21:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T21:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/267143\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T21:21:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T21:21:09","slug":"50-cents-ex-claims-she-signed-her-life-rights-away-out-of-fear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/267143\/","title":{"rendered":"50 Cent\u2019s Ex Claims She Signed Her Life Rights Away Out of &#8216;Fear&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tShaniqua Tompkins\u00a0is pushing back against\u00a0a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/50-cent-sues-ex-girlfriend-videos-life-rights-1235389383\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lawsuit filed by G-Unit Books<\/a>, alleging that she was coerced into signing away her life rights under threats, intimidation, and extreme financial pressure tied to Curtis \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/50-cent\/\" id=\"auto-tag_50-cent\" data-tag=\"50-cent\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">50 Cent<\/a>\u201d Jackson and his team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/lawsuit\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lawsuit\" data-tag=\"lawsuit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lawsuit<\/a>, brought by Jackson\u2019s publishing company in July 2025, targets videos Tompkins posted in 2023 and 2025 in which she recounts alleged details of her past relationship with the rapper, which began before his rise to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOne June 2025 YouTube video drew particular scrutiny, as Tompkins accused Jackson of physically and verbally abusing her during her pregnancy with their son, Marquise, and throughout their relationship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tShe also alluded to Jackson\u2019s possible involvement in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/50-cent-files-defamation-suit-against-ex-following-house-blaze-245187\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a 2008 fire<\/a> that destroyed her Long Island home, a property she claims he was attempting to evict her from at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tG-Unit Books argues that these public statements violate a 2007 Life Rights Agreement that granted the company exclusive control over her life story, name, and likeness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn a sworn affidavit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/allhiphop.com\/news\/exclusive-50-cents-ex-claims-she-was-forced-to-sign-away-life-rights-i-would-suffer\/#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">obtained by AllHipHop<\/a>, Tompkins contends that the agreement was never entered into freely. In her filing, she stated she was \u201centirely financially dependent on [50 Cent],\u201d alleging that he forced her out of a real estate investment business to ensure that dependence and pressure her into signing the deal with G-Unit Books.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAccording to Tompkins, the late music executive Chris Lighty \u2014 Jackson\u2019s manager until his death in 2012 \u2014 acted as \u201can intermediary and enforcer on behalf of [50 Cent].\u201d She claims Lighty appeared at her Las Vegas hotel room with a man she believed to be a bodyguard and told her the agreement was \u201cnon-negotiable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cDuring this encounter, Mr. Lighty told me that I would suffer severe consequences if I did not sign the agreement,\u201d Tompkins\u2019 filing claims. \u201cFearing for my life and for my children\u2019s lives, I signed the agreement under extreme duress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tShe further alleges Lighty warned that Jackson would use his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vibe.com\/lists\/g-unit-studios-developement-louisiana-timeline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">\u201cpower, wealth, and public platform\u201d<\/a>\u00a0against her, leaving her with what she described as \u201cno meaningful choice\u201d and intimidating her \u201cto extract rights that I would never have surrendered freely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe agreement allegedly promised $80,000, though Tompkins says she received only $35,000 and that G-Unit Books \u201cdid not honor the agreement it now claims to enforce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn December 2025, G-Unit Books\u2019 attorneys sought a default judgment in New York federal court after Tompkins initially failed to respond by the Sept. 10 deadline, requesting a permanent injunction and a damages inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vibe.com\/music\/music-news\/50-cent-hustler-harder-hustler-smarter-667596\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The publisher<\/a>\u00a0is seeking $1 million in damages, plus interest and legal fees. At the time of filing, Jackson\u2019s attorney Reena Jain stated, \u201cJackson purchased these rights to preserve them for use in future biographical or autobiographical projects, but also in part because he was concerned that Tompkins would attempt to monetize their history and his name.
