Fans of DCI Silva and DI Longacre have reason to celebrate today, as filming on the third season of the BBC hit Vigil has seemingly wrapped. The show’s star Suranne Jones has announced that upcoming episodes of the acclaimed police procedural thriller are now in the can.<\/p>\n

Taking to Instagram<\/a>, the actor (who plays Amy Silva) posted a photo of herself on set with co-star Rose Leslie, who plays Kristen Longacre; her partner.<\/p>\n

“And that\u2019s a wrap on Vigil III,” she wrote, adding: “Love you Rose Leslie.”<\/p>\n

As previously reported by Deadline<\/a>, season three will take the duo to the Arctic Circle<\/a>, where a member of a covert British special forces has been killed.<\/p>\n

They will face an uphill challenge to catch the killer and handle a very fragile political situation; a task that will truly test both their careers and their relationship.<\/p>\n

Writer Tom Edge said at the time of the third series’ announcement: \u201cI\u2019m delighted that Suranne and Rose are returning for a new adventure. In our third season we travel to the frozen north where the world\u2019s great powers are competing to secure advantages as the ice melts.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two series that have aired so far have a combined average score of 71% on Rotten Tomatoes, with series one in particular coming in for high praise.<\/p>\n

Reviewing season two, PerthNow<\/a> said: “There\u2019s something to be said for a serviceable police procedural featuring characters who know how to do their jobs. There are always twists and turns but at least ineptitude won\u2019t be one of the obstacles.”<\/p>\n

The Guardian<\/a> praised the second run’s change of location, after events were largely confined to a submarine first time around. “Exposed to the unforgiving fresh air, Vigil survives \u2013 perhaps even improves,” the outlet stated.<\/p>\n

It’s had strong feedback from viewers, too, with one saying on IMDb<\/a>: “This is a thrilling six-part series from the BBC, I’ve seen some hilarious comments about realism, it’s very obvious that this is meant to thrill and entertain, not inform.<\/p>\n

“It’s claustrophobic, energetic, gripping and fast paced, one of the best shows the BBC have out out in quite a while.”<\/p>\n

Series three of Vigil does not yet have an airdate. Series one and two are on BBC iPlayer.<\/p>\n
