Paul Dano<\/a> has shared his first public response to Quentin Tarantino<\/a>\u2019s disparaging comments<\/a> from back in December.<\/p>\n

The director previously called the actor \u201ca big, giant flaw\u201d in There Will be Blood, adding that he\u2019s \u201csuch a weak, weak, uninteresting guy. The weakest fucking actor in SAG.\u201d At a Sundance 20th anniversary screening of Little Miss Sunshine, Dano was asked about those remarks and said that the public outpouring of support touched him. \u201cThat was really nice,\u201d he told Variety<\/a>. \u201cI was also incredibly grateful that the world spoke up for me so I didn\u2019t have to.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Dano\u2019s magnanimity spared any words for Tarantino himself, his co-workers were more direct. His\u00a0Little Miss Sunshine co-star Toni Collette spoke up before Dano could even answer, saying, \u201cAre we really going there? Fuck that guy! He must\u2019ve been high\u2026 It was just confusing. Who does that?\u201d<\/p>\n

Little Miss Sunshine co-director Jonathan Dayton also chimed in, saying Tarantino\u2019s remarks were an \u201cembarrassment. \u201cI can only think that his rawness of his performance made Tarantino uncomfortable. He couldn\u2019t be easily filed,\u201d Dayton said.<\/p>\n

Tarantino\u2019s diss came during an appearance on Bret Easton Ellis\u2019s podcast<\/a>, where he also took shots at Matthew Lillard and Owen Wilson. Tarantino said he \u201creally [doesn\u2019t] care for Matthew Lillard,\u201d a remark Lillard previously said<\/a> \u201churts your feelings.\u201d In a new interview with\u00a0Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, however, he echoed Dano\u2019s own comments about the experience of being slammed by one of Hollywood\u2019s biggest directors. \u201cIt was like living through your own wake,\u201d Lillard said of the public standing up to defend him and his fellow actors. \u201cAll those R.I.P. emails or tweets and Instagram posts and TikToks, all of the things we see after somebody passes are so sweet. And the reality is I just got to live through all of it firsthand \u2014 alive and kicking! I can\u2019t imagine a more lovely reaction to what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cNobody has to like me. Nobody has to like any actor out there, obviously. It\u2019s personal preference. I am not everyone\u2019s first choice, that is obvious, but to then have that kind of reaction was beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other big Hollywood names also came to the defense of Dano, Lillard, and Wilson.
