{"id":269525,"date":"2026-01-29T04:31:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T04:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/269525\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T04:31:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T04:31:09","slug":"limerick-auctioneer-remembered-as-a-man-of-great-honesty-integrity-and-ethics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/269525\/","title":{"rendered":"Limerick auctioneer remembered as &#8216;a man of great honesty, integrity and ethics&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THERE is shock and sadness in Limerick&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/460\/property\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">auctioneering<\/a> circles following the sad and untimely passing of John de Courcy.<\/p>\n<p>The Parteen man ran his business at Glentworth Street in the city centre, and was very much respected in the local business community.<\/p>\n<p>He passed away this Monday, January 26, at Cork University Hospital and will be reposing this Thursday night at St Nicholas Church in Westbury from 5.30pm to 7pm.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/politics\/1997039\/plans-progressing-for-redevelopment-of-former-limerick-bank-of-ireland-building.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Plans progressing for redevelopment of former Limerick Bank of Ireland building<\/a><\/p>\n<p>His funeral Mass will take place the following day, Friday, January 30 at noon.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Crosse, of GVM Auctioneers, a colleague and neighbour of John&#8217;s for many years, described him as &#8220;a leader in the business and a legend in the business&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He led by example, and was a man of great honesty, integrity and ethics,&#8221; said Mr Crosse.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The auctioneering profession and the name of de Courcy will always be\u00a0synonymous. They had a mart back in the day in Mulgrave Street and would have had a big connection with the farming community over the years,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p>On a personal level, Mr Crosse remembered Mr de Courcy as: &#8220;very affable, very friendly and very chatty&#8221;, with &#8220;a great passion for the business&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He will be sadly missed by all.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gordon Kearney, the managing director of Rooney Auctioneers described John as: &#8220;approachable and fair&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;John earned respect across the industry and beyond, not just for his knowledge, but for the way he treated people.<br \/>John\u2019s absence will be felt by colleagues and clients,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Seymour, of Power Property in O&#8217;Connell Street, added: &#8220;John was a great character, and always had time for a chat.
