{"id":269929,"date":"2026-01-29T10:12:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T10:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/269929\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T10:12:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T10:12:07","slug":"travel-disruption-as-areas-brace-for-more-flooding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/269929\/","title":{"rendered":"Travel disruption as areas brace for more flooding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is &#8220;major disruption&#8221; on some rail lines this morning, while counties in the south and east of the country are bracing for further possible flooding, with more heavy rain forecast on already saturated ground.<\/p>\n<p>A Status Yellow rain warning is in effect until midnight for counties Dublin, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, and Waterford.<\/p>\n<p>The warning comes as communities across the country hit by heavy flooding on Tuesday continue to assess the damage following Storm Chandra.<\/p>\n<p>A section of the DART between Malahide to Howth Junction has re-opened having been closed all morning.<\/p>\n<p>Iarnr\u00f3d \u00c9ireann said there is significant disruption to the Dublin-Belfast Enterprise rail service.<\/p>\n<p>In Dublin, there is no road access to Fairview, one of the main entry routes to the city from the northside because of a burst water mains. Households, schools and businesses are without water supply as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Uisce \u00c9ireann Water Network Operations Manager Keith Conmy said teams were concentrating efforts to make sure local hospitals are supplied.<\/p>\n<p>Garda\u00ed say that it will take a couple of hours until the road reopens, describing the flooding as &#8220;severe&#8221; in the Marino Mart area.<\/p>\n<p>Traffic is stopped at Annesley Bridge and is being diverted down the East Wall Road and Fairview Strand.<\/p>\n<p>Latest figures from the ESB show that more than 1,200 homes and businesses remain without electricity in the aftermath of the storm.<\/p>\n<p>Further flooding &#8216;likely&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Met \u00c9ireann forecaster Holly O&#8217;Neill has said that the weather today is a &#8220;developing situation&#8221; and that it&#8217;s &#8220;likely we&#8217;ll see further localised flooding&#8221; in parts of the south, southeast and possible further east.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on RT\u00c9&#8217;s Morning Ireland, she it is likely Munster and parts of Leinster mostly impacted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With grounds being so saturated and rivers being so high, any further amount of rainfall we are going to get is going to have a greater impact than it would normally have on any other day as the rain has nowhere to go,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Storm Chandra<\/p>\n<p>Heavy winds and torrential rain on Tuesday caused significant disruption across the island of Ireland, including power outages, flight cancellations and 300 school closures in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>Rivers burst their banks, including the Slaney in Co Wexford and the Dodder in Dublin, with fallen trees reported across the island.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for the Office of Public Works (OPW), Kevin Boxer Moran, will visit the areas worst affected by Storm Chandra &#8211; south Dublin, Co Wicklow and Enniscorthy, Co Wexford.<\/p>\n<p>The water has been receding in Enniscorthy where the River Slaney burst its banks, causing major flooding.<\/p>\n<p>Several parts of Enniscorthy town centre were impassable on Tuesday with dozens of homes and businesses under several metres of water.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"There is &#8220;major disruption&#8221; on some rail lines this morning, while counties in the south and east of&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":269930,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[22],"tags":[246,61,60,82],"class_list":["post-269929","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-environment","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-science"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/269929","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=269929"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/269929\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/269930"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=269929"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=269929"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=269929"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
