{"id":270676,"date":"2026-01-29T20:10:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T20:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/270676\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T20:10:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T20:10:07","slug":"actor-jamie-lee-odonnell-had-no-nervousness-featuring-in-kneecap-music-video-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/270676\/","title":{"rendered":"Actor Jamie-Lee O\u2019Donnell had \u2018no nervousness\u2019 featuring in Kneecap music video \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Actor Jamie-Lee O\u2019Donnell had \u201cno nervousness\u201d starring in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kneecap\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kneecap\">Kneecap<\/a>\u2019s music video for Say\u014dnara, which was released three weeks before a terrorism charge against Kneecap\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/mo-chara\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/mo-chara\">Liam \u00d3g \u00d3 hAnnaidh<\/a> was thrown out of court. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The UK crown prosecution service has since appealed the decision, but Ms O\u2019Donnell does \u201cnot think there is any issue\u201d with the actions of the Belfast rap trio. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In the group\u2019s music video, the Derry Girls actor played a burned-out desk worker who escapes from her office in a van emblazoned with \u201cFree Mo Chara\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Speaking at a Screen Ireland event on Thursday, Ms O\u2019Donnell said: \u201cIt\u2019s crazy that it [the terrorism charge] is even happening for flying a flag and saying what they said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cI was born in the \u201980s so the political back and forth and being told you are a problem and on the wrong side is something I am very used to growing up as an Irish Catholic in Derry. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cI am proud to say that I can stick by my integrity and my principles even if people don\u2019t agree and it\u2019s going to be a massive problem. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cI don\u2019t think there is any issue with what they have done\u201d she said, adding that she was a fan of Kneecap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ms O\u2019Donnell will star in an upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/screen-ireland\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/screen-ireland\">Screen Ireland<\/a> film, Skintown. The coming-of-age feature film launched at Trinity College Dublin on Thursday as part of Screen Ireland\u2019s slate of 87 productions for 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Among the projects featured were Power Ballad, directed by John Carney and starring American stars Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas. Mr Carney has described his film, which will premiere at the close of the Dublin International Film Festival in March, as a \u201cludicrous comedy\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Another upcoming production is Frank Berry\u2019s The Lost Children of Tuam, a documentary about Catherine Corless\u2019s work uncovering information about the deaths of children at the Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Tuam.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Animation projects were also highlighted at the event, including Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon\u2019s 2026 feature film Jul\u00edan, which its studio director Louise Bagnall said explored the \u201cpower of self-expression\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/culture\/film\/2026\/01\/22\/it-feels-surreal-dubliner-says-oscar-nomination-for-his-short-film-is-a-dream\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/culture\/film\/2026\/01\/22\/it-feels-surreal-dubliner-says-oscar-nomination-for-his-short-film-is-a-dream\/\">John Kelly<\/a> said on Thursday that being nominated for an Oscar for his short animated film Retirement Plan was \u201ca complete shock\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThere\u2019s a whole Oscar prediction world out there which I was not privy to, and our film was never on any prediction list,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A record-breaking spend by production companies in 2025 resulted in \u20ac544 million going to the Irish economy, via the cost of cast, crew, hotels, catering and other inputs, according to analysis shared by Screen Ireland. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Screen Ireland\u2019s chief executive, D\u00e9sir\u00e9e Finnegan, said the number was \u201coutstanding\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The \u20ac544 million was a 26 per cent increase on the previous year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ms Finnegan cited the section 481 tax credit for film and television as a \u201ccritical underpinning\u201d of the attractiveness of Ireland as a location for international productions to come and film. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The tax credit allows productions to claim 32 per cent of their spend on all goods, services, cast and crew while filming in Ireland.
