Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can pose serious health risks to vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"view-sources\">[1]<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/chia-seed-recall-in-line-secodary-1440x810.jpg\" width=\"406\" height=\"406\" alt=\"Navitas chia seed back of bag\" class=\"eh-image__img\"\/>FDA<\/p>\n<p>Navitas Organics said that salmonella has not been detected so far in any of its products, and no illnesses have been reported. The company issued the recall as a \u201cprecautionary measure,\u201d after its supplier initiated a recall, according to the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>Navitas recalled 8 oz packages of organic chia seeds sold in stand-up pouches with the UPC code 858847000284.<\/p>\n<p>The company said 9-digit lot codes starting with \u201cW&#8221; are printed on the back of packaging above the nutritional information. You should throw them away, or return them for a refund, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>To avoid potential cross-contamination, clean and sanitize any surfaces that may have come into contact with the chia seeds.<\/p>\n<p>How Does Salmonella Make You Sick?Salmonella is a group of bacteria (among many) that can cause <a class=\"cr-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.everydayhealth.com\/digestive-health\/the-most-common-causes-of-food-poisoning.aspx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">food poisoning<\/a>. A salmonella infection can be serious and sometimes deadly for vulnerable groups, including young children, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"view-sources\">[2]<\/p>\n<p>In healthy people, salmonella infection can cause symptoms that can start anywhere from 6 hours to 6 days after eating contaminated food.<\/p>\n<p class=\"view-sources\">[3]<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms include:<\/p>\n<p>FeverHeadacheDiarrhea (which may be bloody)Stomach crampsNausea and vomiting<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms of salmonella infection usually last 4 to 7 days.
