The Castlebar takeaway has previously earned Gold awards for Best Fresh Chicken Fillet (2025), along with Best in Connacht and Bronze at the national level for Fish &amp; Chips, coming close to the top honour before securing it in 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayonews.ie\/news\/belmullet\/2002772\/mayo-residents-being-held-for-ransom-over-lack-of-water-services.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mayo residents being \u2018held for ransom\u2019 over lack of water services<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut of all the awards, this one means a huge amount to us,\u201d Patjoe said. \u201cIt\u2019s not voted for, it\u2019s not campaigned for \u2014 you\u2019re judged anonymously, on a normal day, doing what you always do. To be recognised at a national level for fish and chips, after years of refining and improving, is incredibly rewarding for the whole team.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a huge amount of work behind the scenes,\u201d Patjoe added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt really is a labour of love \u2014 and that\u2019s why this award is so special. It belongs to the entire team who put the standards first, every day.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The O\u2019Connell family has been part of the Irish takeaway industry for more than 50 years, witnessing first-hand how the sector has evolved.
