{"id":274527,"date":"2026-01-31T23:57:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T23:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/274527\/"},"modified":"2026-01-31T23:57:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T23:57:10","slug":"cork-man-had-to-be-pepper-sprayed-to-be-arrested-court-told","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/274527\/","title":{"rendered":"Cork man had to be pepper sprayed\u00a0to be arrested, court told"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">A \u201cvery intoxicated\u201d man who was found next to a crashed vehicle in the early hours of the morning had to be pepper sprayed so he could be arrested, the district court has heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Sergeant Trish O\u2019Sullivan told Macroom District Court that garda\u00ed attended a single-vehicle traffic accident at Glantane West, Carriganima, near Macroom, Co Cork, at 12.45am on August 31, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">When they arrived at the scene, they met a man and woman standing beside the crashed vehicle. Both were described as being \u201cvery intoxicated\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The man \u2014 identified as Jamie Lee, aged 22, with an address at Oughtherry, Rylane, Co Cork \u2014 told garda\u00ed they \u201cwere not needed\u201d, and initially gave garda\u00ed incorrect details.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">When garda\u00ed arrested the woman for public intoxication, Lee became \u201cvery aggressive\u201d and told them to \u201cfuck off\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Pepper sprayed<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">He eventually had to be pepper-sprayed to subdue him, and he was arrested and taken to Macroom Garda Station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Lee was charged with being intoxicated in a public place, threatening and abusive behaviour, and obstructing a peace officer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The court was told Lee had no previous convictions for public order offences, though he did have road traffic convictions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Defence solicitor Jack Purcell told the court Lee, who was pleading guilty, had assured him he did not drink anymore and was currently in the process of applying for work in a local supermarket.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">He said his client had other charges pending for motoring offences in another court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Judge Joanne Carroll said the vehicle Lee was standing beside at the time of his arrest was involved in a single vehicle collision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">She asked the Probation Service to prepare a probation report and adjourned the matter to April 15 to allow time for it to be completed.<\/p>\n<p>                This article is funded by the Courts Reporting Scheme<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A \u201cvery intoxicated\u201d man who was found next to a crashed vehicle in the early hours of the&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":274528,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[2246,79,54,61,60,43],"class_list":["post-274527","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ireland","tag-cork-court","tag-cork-news","tag-courts","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/274527","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=274527"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/274527\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/274528"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=274527"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=274527"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=274527"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
