{"id":274642,"date":"2026-02-01T01:45:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T01:45:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/274642\/"},"modified":"2026-02-01T01:45:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-01T01:45:07","slug":"thief-who-wished-to-be-arrested-broke-into-limerick-gaa-clubhouse-to-take-a-shower","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/274642\/","title":{"rendered":"Thief &#8216;who wished to be arrested&#8217; broke into Limerick GAA clubhouse \u2018to take a shower&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A MAN &#8211; who broke into a GAA clubhouse to take a shower &#8211; has admitted to stealing thousands of euro worth of cash and damaging property during several burglary offences.<\/p>\n<p>Lukasz Porowinski, aged 42, who is currently in custody, has pleaded guilty to six counts of burglary &#8211; all at locations in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Polish man &#8211; who has been in the country ten years &#8211; stole \u20ac2,050 from Curragower Pub in the city\u2019s Medieval Quarter on October 21, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Limerick Circuit Court heard he also stole an e-scooter from a member of staff at Icon nightclub on November 28, 2024 and stole the till from Eden medical centre on August 9, 2025. At Eden cosmetic centre, garda\u00ed found the man with a &#8220;burglary tool-kit&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/crime-and-courts\/2000467\/an-garda-siochana-issue-update-on-the-four-members-found-not-guilty-at-limerick-trial.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">An Garda Siochana issue update on the four members found not guilty at Limerick trial<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Porowinski also broke into Claughaun GAA, Clubhouse Singland, on the Dublin Road Road, and Bua Barbers on Henry Street.<br \/>The court heard the defendant caused \u20ac1,500 worth of damage to the doors at Claughaun GAA clubhouse when he broke in \u201cto take a shower\u201d on July 3, 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the facts of the case with Garda Conor Staunton, prosecuting barrister John O\u2019Sullivan, outlined that none of the stolen money was recovered.<\/p>\n<p>There was no mention during the proceedings of damages or compensation being paid.<\/p>\n<p>It emerged during the garda investigation that Mr Porowinski committed the burglary at the Curragower Pub due to a perceived grievance he had with the manager. During interviews with garda\u00ed, it emerged the grievance was \u201cunfounded\u201d and had \u201can element of fantasy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Barrister Elaine Davern Wiseman said in mitigation that Mr Porowinski has been in ill health and that he suffers from diabetes and depression.<\/p>\n<p>She added that he stated \u201che wished to be arrested\u201d in his interview with garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Wiseman said \u201chis daughter committed suicide and it had an ill effect on him\u201d and that the man \u201cwishes to apologise\u201d for his \u201cvery poor choices\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judge Colin Daly stated: \u201cI will take these matters into consideration&#8221;.
