\n\tThe 20-year-old artist tackled the track in-studio alongside his band, just one week after landing inside the top 10 of Australia\u2019s annual Hottest 100<\/a> countdown himself. Introducing the cover, sombr praised Dean as \u201ca really inspiring and incredible artist,\u201d adding that the song immediately stood out to him.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt feels so timeless and I love the production, I love the lyrics,\u201d he said. \u201cEverything about it. Amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOriginally released by Dean in 2024, \u201cMan I Need\u201d was crowned No. 1 in triple j\u2019s Hottest 100 of 2025, marking one of the year\u2019s most talked-about wins. Sombr\u2019s rendition strips the track back emotionally while reshaping it sonically, layering distorted vocals and a driving indie-rock pulse over the song\u2019s core melody.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Like a Version appearance marks sombr\u2019s debut on the platform and arrives during a breakout period for the New York\u2013based artist. Known for blending alt-pop and indie rock with diaristic, emotionally raw songwriting, sombr has quickly built momentum over the past year with a run of globally resonant releases.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2025, he released his debut studio album I Barely Know Her, a 10-track project co-produced with Tony Berg that explored themes of heartbreak, longing and life in New York City. The album included several of his biggest tracks to date, including \u201cBack to Friends,\u201d which became his breakout global<\/a> hit and made the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, \u201cUndressed,\u201d which topped charts in multiple countries, and \u201c12 to 12,\u201d which finished at No. 8 in the Hottest 100.<\/p>\n
