{"id":275160,"date":"2026-02-01T09:34:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T09:34:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/275160\/"},"modified":"2026-02-01T09:34:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-01T09:34:07","slug":"woman-hails-offaly-paramedics-as-her-angels-and-heroes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/275160\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman hails Offaly Paramedics as her &#8216;angels&#8217; and &#8216;heroes&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A woman has hailed two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offalyexpress.ie\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Offaly<\/a> Paramedics as being her \u201cangels\u201d and \u201cheroes\u201d as they saved her life and comforted her during a traumatic situation.<\/p>\n<p>Pauline King says that if it hadn&#8217;t been for the Birr\u2011based ambulance men she would no longer be with us.<\/p>\n<p>She was at home on the night of February 21st last year, when, at 1.30am she suffered \u201ca massive heart attack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had been watching the Late Late,\u201d she recalled. \u201cAfter that, Peadar (her husband) started to watch a film, but I was tired and went to bed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She woke up at 1.30am feeling very unwell. \u201cI felt terrible, really bad. There was a strange sensation in my body which I can only describe as being like insects buzzing. I told Peadar and we rang 999 immediately. The ambulance arrived in ten minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT: <a style=\"color: blue; font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.offalyexpress.ie\/news\/home\/1999476\/young-driver-apologises-for-degrading-social-media-post-about-tullamore-garda.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Young driver apologises for \u2018degrading\u2019 social media post about Tullamore garda<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The paramedics, whose ambulance is based in John&#8217;s Terrace, Birr, were Aidan Mooney and Seamus Pyke. \u201cWe carried out a 12\u2011lead ECG on Pauline which told us she was having a heart attack,\u201d said Aidan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe informed Limerick Hospital and then her heart stopped, transitioning from an attack to an arrest. We used the defibrillator, administering one shock and carried out CPR. Thankfully, her heart restarted and she came back almost immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pauline said the Paramedics were \u201cwonderful\u201d. \u201cYou can imagine how low and terrible I felt and they were so professional and kind. They held my hand and spoke kindly to me. They were like angels, heroes. And they brought me back, for which I am so grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pauline, who is 70 years of age, said she is delighted to still be alive and she relishes, savours life; just being here fills her with gratitude. I need to get out and work, for a few hours a day at least.
