\n\tClive Davis<\/a> confirmed the long-rumored casting of Meryl Streep<\/a> in the Joni Mitchell<\/a> biopic during the record exec\u2019s pre-Grammy bash Saturday in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n \n\tDuring the annual party held at the Beverly Hilton, Davis was introducing some of the A-listers in attendance and landed on Mitchell, who he said would be portrayed by Streep in Cameron Crowe<\/a>\u2019s long-in-the-works biopic.<\/p>\n \n\tRumors about Streep\u2019s casting first surfaced<\/a> in July 2024, with the Oscar-winning actress playing an older version of Mitchell in the film, while Anya Taylor-Joy was later rumored<\/a> to portray the singer in her younger days; Taylor-Joy\u2019s casting has still not been confirmed.<\/p>\n \n\tWhen reached for comment, Crowe referred Rolling Stone to Davis\u2019 announcement. Reps for Streep and Mitchell did not reply to a request for comment.<\/p>\n \n\tCrowe, who developed a long friendship with Mitchell after interviewing the singer for Rolling Stone in 1979, has been developing the Joni biopic for the past half-decade, as he revealed in an October 2025 interview on The Late Show.<\/p>\n \t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWe\u2019ve been working on it for about four years. We have regular meetings where I can ask her anything and she speaks with her heart about all kinds of stuff. She\u2019s even still the landlady of her famous house in Laurel Canyon.
