{"id":275912,"date":"2026-02-01T21:00:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T21:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/275912\/"},"modified":"2026-02-01T21:00:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-01T21:00:14","slug":"dermot-oleary-plays-tribute-to-terry-wogan-on-10th-anniversary-of-his-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/275912\/","title":{"rendered":"Dermot O\u2019Leary plays tribute to Terry Wogan on 10th anniversary of his death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Presenter Dermot O\u2019Leary has paid tribute to Terry Wogan on his  BBC Radio 2 show by playing a song recorded by the former Eurovision commentator.<\/p>\n<p>The 52-year-old, who replaced Wogan on the variety show Children In Need in 2015, said \u201cit\u2019s been 10 years since we lost him\u201d, before adding that he had to play Terry\u2019s 1978 hit single The Floral Dance in tribute.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Before playing the song, O\u2019Leary asked fellow radio presenter Romesh Ranganathan if he had ever met Wogan, to which he replied: \u201cI didn\u2019t, unfortunately, but I regularly go back to watch him hosting Never Mind The Buzzcocks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cBecause it was so good, because that was such a comedy, comedy show, and obviously Terry is so funny \u2026 you basically feel like you could drop him into any environment or scenario and he\u2019ll be absolutely brilliant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2.33616299.jpg\" title=\"Children in Need\" \/> Presenter Dermot O\u2019Leary replaced Sir Terry on Children In Need (David Jansen\/PA)<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It comes after Wogan&#8217;s so, Mark, described him as \u201cthe least showbiz person in showbiz\u201d while speaking on Jeremy Vine\u2019s  BBC Radio 2 show on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Wogan said: \u201cHe loved what he did.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cAs he said, \u2018I\u2019ve got the best job in the world. I go into work every day and laugh for two hours\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mark said his father was a \u201cfamily man\u201d who \u201cmade a conscious decision that he was public property\u201d but did not want his family to be bothered by his fame.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He added: \u201cHe was very private and when he clocked off at Radio Two, he genuinely went home.
