Ulster have signed scrum-half Matthew Devine on a one-year deal from Connacht.<\/p>\n
The 23-year old from Ballinasloe will join Richie Murphy’s side in the summer, Ulster confirmed in a statement.<\/p>\n
Devine has scored three tries for Connacht this season, having progressed through the province’s academy system.<\/p>\n
He previously played under Murphy as part of Ireland’s Grand Slam winning Under-20 side in 2022.<\/p>\n
“We can confirm Matthew Devine has chosen not to extend his contract, and will leave Connacht Rugby at the end of the season,” Connacht posted on ‘X’ this evening.<\/p>\n
“While we are disappointed by his decision, we thank him for all his efforts during his time at the club.”<\/p>\n
In his own statement on the move, Devine hailed the style of play employed by Ulster under Murphy.<\/p>\n
“It’s a brilliant opportunity for me to join a team who are making great strides forward and playing some of the most exciting, attacking rugby in the URC.<\/p>\n
“Having worked with the coaching staff before with the U20s, I have a great relationship with them, and I feel their style suits my game. I\u2019m looking forward to meeting my new teammates and the Ulster supporters!”<\/p>\n
Ulster’s general manager Rory Best welcomed the move, saying they had “secured one of the most talented young scrum-halves in Ireland.”<\/p>\n
