I\u2019m not sure who all needs to hear this, but if your name is Bad Bunny or Billie Eilish<\/a>, it\u2019s definitely you:<\/p>\n

You are famous because of your talents as musicians, not because of your idiotic views on politics and President Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As is often the case with celebrities, whether they sing or act, they often feel the need to pontificate on how awful Republicans are<\/a> when they are accepting awards.<\/p>\n

No one cares.<\/p>\n

And these preachy, shallow diatribes only risk alienating a huge potential swath of the audience, including half the country who voted for Trump. (There\u2019s a reason \u201cMelania,\u201d the documentary about the first lady, broke box office expectations<\/a> last weekend.)<\/p>\n

The latest example of this tiresome practice of political bashing took place Feb. 1, at the 68th Grammy Awards.<\/p>\n

Both Bad Bunny and Eilish, for instance, felt the need to denounce ICE<\/a>, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency that took a lot of heat after federal agents killed two American protesters in Minneapolis in January.<\/p>\n

Opinion: Trump secured the border. Don’t let Minnesota overshadow that. <\/a><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what Bad Bunny said while accepting an award at the ceremony<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to say, \u2018ICE out,\u2019 \u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re not savage. We\u2019re not animals. We\u2019re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n

No surprise, Bad Bunny got a standing ovation from the largely like-minded crowd.<\/p>\n

He also said: \u201cI know it\u2019s tough not to hate these days. \u2026 The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love. So please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love. We don\u2019t hate them \u2013 we love our people, we love our family and that\u2019s how you do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

It will be interesting to see what kind of reception Bad Bunny gets Feb. 8, as he\u2019s performing at the Super Bowl halftime show, where a lot of fans aren\u2019t going to appreciate his politicking.<\/p>\n

Billie Eilish<\/a> used her Grammys acceptance speech for song of the year to encourage people to continue to stand up to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. <\/p>\n

Wearing an “ICE Out” pin<\/a>, she told the audience at the Feb. 1 awards show to “keep fighting” amid a ramp up in ICE raids across the country as part of President Trump’s mass deportation efforts. <\/p>\n

When accepting her award, Eilish thoughtfully proclaimed: \u201cF—k ice\u201d<\/a> and said the following: \u201cNobody is illegal on stolen land. … We just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting. Our voices really do matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maybe not as much as she thinks.<\/p>\n

Not all the singers were so insufferable. Jelly Roll, for instance, used his acceptance speech to give a touching tribute to his faith and his wife<\/a> for helping him turn his life around.<\/p>\n

And then, when directly asked about the current state of politics<\/a> after his win, he said: \u201cPeople shouldn\u2019t care to hear my opinion<\/a>. I\u2019m a dumb redneck.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI hate to be\u00a0the artist that sounds aloof, but I just feel so disconnected from\u00a0what\u2019s happening,\u201d Jelly Roll continued. \u201cI didn\u2019t know politics were real until I was in my\u00a0 mid-20s in jail. That\u2019s how disconnected you are when you grow up in a\u00a0drug-addicted household.\u201d<\/p>\n

How refreshing, and kudos for his honesty.<\/p>\n

Not all celebrities hate Trump. Rap star Nicki Minaj is quite a fan, actually<\/a>, and she recently attended the White House launch of \u201cTrump Accounts\u201d for the nation\u2019s newborns. She and Trump held hands at one point.<\/p>\n

Of course, that earned her a mocking by Grammys host Trevor Noah<\/a> during his opening monologue: \u201cNicki Minaj is not here. She is still at the White House with Donald Trump discussing very important issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other celebrities are starting to back off from politics\"Sydney<\/p>\n

While the outpouring of Democratic talking points at the Grammys was discouraging, there have been some hopeful signs that celebrities are realizing we don\u2019t really need to hear them opine on politics.<\/p>\n

In November, actress Sydney Sweeney told GQ<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019ve always believed that I\u2019m not here to tell people what to think. I\u2019m just here to kind of open their eyes to different ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sweeney had been raked over the coals<\/a> by the progressive left for starring in a fun American Eagle jeans ad that some mistakenly claimed was \u201cracist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Similarly, actress Jennifer Lawrence told The New York Times<\/a> in November that she didn\u2019t feel a need to talk about Trump or politics.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we\u2019ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for,\u201d Lawrence said. \u201cSo then what am I doing (when speaking out against Trump)? I\u2019m just sharing my opinion on something that\u2019s going to add fuel to a fire that\u2019s ripping the country apart.\u201d<\/p>\n
