{"id":279833,"date":"2026-02-04T06:57:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T06:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/279833\/"},"modified":"2026-02-04T06:57:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T06:57:10","slug":"out-of-it-young-man-admits-attempting-to-break-into-car-parked-outside-limerick-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/279833\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Out of it&#8217; &#8211; Young man admits attempting to break into car parked outside Limerick home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"152\" data-end=\"296\">A YOUNG man who attempted to break into a parked car has been told he will avoid a conviction if he makes a contribution to charity.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"298\" data-end=\"472\">Eric Lynch, aged 21, of Riverview Estate, Kilmallock appeared before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/463\/crime-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">local court<\/a>\u00a0to face a charge under Section 113 of the Road Traffic Act 1961, relating to interference with a motor vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The court heard that gardai responded to a report of a man attempting to open the door of a car parked in a driveway of a house at Millmount, Kilmallock, in the early hours of March 2, 2025.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"163\" data-end=\"255\">Read next:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/motoring-news\/1999864\/alert-gardai-urge-limerick-motorists-to-wake-up-to-major-safety-risk-on-roads.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ALERT: Gardai urge Limerick motorists to &#8216;wake up&#8217; to major safety risk on roads<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"163\" data-end=\"255\">Gardai identified Mr Lynch as a suspect through CCTV footage. The court heard that at 4.53am Mr Lynch can be seen on the footage approaching the car and attempting to open the door.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"391\" data-end=\"469\">When interviewed under caution, he made \u201cfull admissions\u201d to garda\u00ed, and the court heard that no damage was caused to the car.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"391\" data-end=\"469\">Solicitor Michael O&#8217;Donnell told the court that his client &#8220;was out of it&#8221; and &#8220;had no clue where he was&#8221; when he attempted to open the car door.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"391\" data-end=\"469\">He explained that his client is a 21-year old man with no previous convictions, who works in a meat factory.
