Last week, the actor and SmartLess cohost sat down for a wide-ranging conversation on The Romesh Ranganathan Show<\/a>. And at one point during the chat, Will wound up sharing his divisive thoughts<\/a> on people with a lot of body art.\"Will<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a very controversial position on tattoos,\u201d he began.\"Will<\/p>\n

\u201cThis generalization that I\u2019ve come up with is sweeping, and it certainly doesn\u2019t apply to you,\u201d he said to host Romesh, who estimated that he has about 20 tattoos.\"Will<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are a lot of exceptions to this rule, but I would say, on the balance\u2026 There\u2019s a proportionate relationship between how many tattoos you have and how little personality you have,\u201d Will said.\"Will\u201cI find a lot of people who have a ton of tattoos often are super fucking boring,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cLike, truly boring people.\u201d\"WillRomesh agreed with Will, suggesting, \u201cIt\u2019s manufactured edge.\u201d Will then replied, \u201cThat\u2019s right. Reddit users immediately guessed that Will\u2019s comments would cause a stir. \u201cOoohhh people are gonna be piiiiiiissed about this!\u201d one user said<\/a>.\"Will<\/p>\n

And indeed, a stir was caused, with one person describing Will\u2019s thoughts as a \u201cbullshit opinion.\u201d<\/a>\"Comment\u201cTattoo discourse in 2026 is wild. They\u2019re so mainstream and normalised now (compared to a few decades ago), I find it insane anyone even cares to mention them anymore,\u201d someone said<\/a>. \u201cI’m always suspicious when someone describes a whole group of people or \u2018type\u2019 of personality as boring. It so often means they are either a. self obsessed or b. addicted to always having some drama which they should really seek therapy for,\u201d another wrote<\/a>.\"Reddit<\/p>\n

\u201cIMO, any \u2018all people with X be like Y\u2019 take is usually some level of shortsighted and easily disproven. If I was trying to sound like a clever dude with a clever take, I\u2019d avoid sweeping generalizations,\u201d one user echoed<\/a>.\"Comment<\/p>\n

\u201cTattoos have been around for centuries and many cultures embrace them, so this generalization is very much corporate boomer coded or you’re surrounded by boring people,\u201d someone else said<\/a>, while one more user added<\/a>, \u201cI know this is hard for some people to understand, but people get tattoos for themselves and not because they think someone else will think the tattoo is cool. It’s not to be different or counter culture. This isn’t 1960.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is allowed to have this opinion. The circumstances of his life experience brought this individual to his opinion. He acknowledged his opinion is controversial and acknowledged that it\u2019s a generalization and does not apply to every single person. Great thing about life is that two opposing opinions can both be valid given the circumstances and life experiences of the individual,\u201d another wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On the flip side, someone argued<\/a>, \u201cI think the correct thing for him to have said would be \u2018some people make up for their lack of personality by having tattoos.\u2019 I think that\u2019s generally the point he\u2019s trying to make, and that\u2019s a completely valid and true opinion to have, but by stating there\u2019s a general link between having a lot of tattoos and having no personality is both a stretch and kind of offensive.\u201d\"Will<\/p>\n
