{"id":282357,"date":"2026-02-05T15:59:06","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T15:59:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/282357\/"},"modified":"2026-02-05T15:59:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T15:59:06","slug":"kenny-jacobs-to-step-down-as-daa-ceo-after-high-court-action-settled-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/282357\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenny Jacobs to step down as DAA CEO after High Court action settled \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kenny-jacobs\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kenny-jacobs\">Kenny Jacobs<\/a> will \u201cvoluntarily step down\u201d as chief executive of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/daa\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/daa\">DAA <\/a>after he settled a lawsuit brought against the State airport operator, the High Court has heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Lawyers for Jacobs told Judge Marguerite Bolger on Thursday that the parties had resolved their dispute on mutually agreeable terms, under which Jacobs would step down from his position at DAA, operator of Dublin and Cork airports. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Jacobs initiated the action against DAA after he was suspended by the company in December, pending an investigation into allegations made against him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2026\/01\/16\/vip-lounge-use-70000-whiskey-and-media-leaks-daa-jacobs-row-spills-into-court\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A Saudi prince, \u20ac70,000 whiskey and a \u2018hatchet job\u2019: the DAA-Kenny Jacobs row spills into courtOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In his High Court action, Jacobs had sought his return to work and declarations that the DAA board had prejudged his removal from office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">On Thursday, Mair\u00e9ad McKenna, counsel for DAA, said the case had settled on mutually agreeable terms and could be struck out. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Under the agreement, McKenna said that Jacobs would \u201cvoluntarily step down\u201d from his role as chief executive of DAA. She said an order could be made for Jacobs\u2019s legal costs. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">McKenna said both parties acknowledged the contribution made by DAA\u2019s management team and staff to the operation and commercial success of the company, and the positive impact DAA has on the Irish economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Bolger made the order as sought, and congratulated the parties on reaching a settlement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a statement, Jacobs said he was \u201cpleased\u201d the dispute had been resolved. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cI am immensely proud of the outstanding performance DAA achieved in my time as CEO with record operational, commercial and financial results.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cI am delighted with the very many improvements made for passengers at Dublin and Cork airports and the infrastructure expansion that supports aviation capacity growth and sustainability change which are both vital to the Irish economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cMost of all, I want to sincerely thank the exceptional teams at Cork airport, Dublin Airport, ARI and DAA International and wish them the very best in the future,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A spokeswoman for DAA said the airport operator would not be commenting beyond what was said in court. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The hearing of Jacobs\u2019s bid for an interlocutory injunction was due to begin on Thursday, running into Friday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Following Jacobs\u2019s initiation of legal proceedings in early January, DAA gave a court undertaking to pause its investigation into the complaints against him, pending the outcome of the lawsuit. Lawyers for DAA said at the time the airport operator was \u201cabsolutely opposed\u201d to Jacobs\u2019s case. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a sworn statement to the court, Jacobs had claimed the board\u2019s decision to investigate around 20 alleged issues was \u201ctainted by reasonable objective bias\u201d and that the outcome had been \u201cpredetermined\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A previous, separate investigation conducted by barrister Mark Connaughton did not uphold two formal complaints made against Jacobs early last year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Jacobs said in his written evidence that Connaughton rejected allegations that the chief executive engaged in \u201csexist, misogynistic, racist, homophobic and ageist behaviours\u201d in comments to or about employees. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">When new allegations emerged, DAA initiated a fresh investigation against Jacobs, and in December suspended him from his role with full pay.
