{"id":284837,"date":"2026-02-07T01:04:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-07T01:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/284837\/"},"modified":"2026-02-07T01:04:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-07T01:04:08","slug":"almost-200-dodgy-box-accounts-shut-down-after-gardai-raid-property-in-galway-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/284837\/","title":{"rendered":"Almost 200 \u2018dodgy box\u2019 accounts shut down after garda\u00ed raid property in Galway \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\">Garda\u00ed<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/galway\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/galway\/\">Galway<\/a> have shut down an illegal TV streaming service following a search of a residential property in the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Almost 200 accounts believed to be linked to an internet protocol television (IPTV) streaming service were ceased as a result of the operation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A number of electronic devices were seized by garda\u00ed during the raid, which took place at a property in the Rahoon area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The search was carried out as part of an operation targeting illegal TV streaming services and money-laundering offences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Members of the Galway county west crime unit, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/garda-national-bureau-of-criminal-investigation\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/garda-national-bureau-of-criminal-investigation\/\">Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/garda-national-cyber-crime-bureau\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/garda-national-cyber-crime-bureau\/\">Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau<\/a> took part in the search.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">No arrests have been made to date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cA file will be prepared for the office of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/director-of-public-prosecutions\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/director-of-public-prosecutions\/\">Director of Public Prosecutions<\/a>.
