{"id":286031,"date":"2026-02-07T17:55:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-07T17:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/286031\/"},"modified":"2026-02-07T17:55:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-07T17:55:11","slug":"multi-million-euro-plans-unveiled-for-historic-country-house-in-limerick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/286031\/","title":{"rendered":"Multi-million euro plans unveiled for historic country house in Limerick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ONE of Limerick\u2019s most historic and recognisable homes is set for a fresh lease of life, with its new owner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/231\/planning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">planning<\/a> a major development on its land.<\/p>\n<p>A new tech hub building on the 1.5-acre site of the 19th century Heathfield House in Kilmeedy will feature a swimming pool, cafe, and open plan offices.<\/p>\n<p>Torque Lodge Consulting, headed by technical expert Nick Wilsdon, is also planning a refurbishment of the 19th century house to include 12 short-stay bedrooms.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/crime-and-courts\/2006665\/man-accused-of-stealing-20-steaks-and-eight-legs-of-lamb-from-limerick-shop.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Man accused of stealing 20 steaks and eight legs of lamb from Limerick shop<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On top of this, his multi-million euro plans to construct the tech hub will see a number of different zones.<\/p>\n<p>One will offer space for work and collaboration, with a second \u2018wellness zone\u2019 providing a swimming pool, gym and yoga studio, with a cafe, seating area, theatre and presentation room also in the complex.<\/p>\n<p>A protected structure, Heathfield House was sold last year for \u20ac825,000 to Mr Wilsdon.<\/p>\n<p>He saw it as an ideal headquarters for his company Torque Edge Consulting, as well as for his family who always wanted a bit more space in the countryside to \u201craise some chickens and ducks!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Wilsdon, who has worked with a number of blue-chip firms in the past said: \u201cWe are specialist programmers and work with large enterprise clients. I have 25 years\u2019 experience working for people like Vodafone and have a lot of experience in enterprise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He says \u201cseveral million euro\u201d is being invested in refurbishing Heathfield House and building the two-storey tech hub.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are doing a lot in terms of hiring people locally. We have our first full-time job starting in the next two weeks. Jobs will involve looking after the event space, event organisation, grounds-keeping, cleaning, turning rooms over.<\/p>\n<p>But also around things like the activities we will host. You\u2019d have different people running things like yoga classes and others around this area, who we will bring in to provide services to our guests,\u201d Mr Wilsdon explained.<\/p>\n<p>The tech hub could be used for companies providing away days for their staff, while the short-stay accommodation, he suggested, could provide temporary lodgings to so-called \u2018digital nomads\u2019, who work remotely across the world.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/34133600-1770227376152.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1055\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Above: A render of how the tech hub on land at Heathfield House could appear<\/p>\n<p>He praised the support he has received from the local Kilmeedy community since moving on site, and as a result hopes to \u201cgive back a bit\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This would involve opening the tech hub out to local groups, and supporting businesses from the area in terms of serving the facility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019d like to get people like Roots (Cafe in Kilmeedy) to provide catering and food to events. We want to connect in with all the local businesses,\u201d Mr Wilsdon added.<\/p>\n<p>He described Heathfield House as being \u201ca focal point for the whole area\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been amazing being in this building, because everyone has a history here. Everyone\u2019s grandparents or relatives at some point worked at Heathfield House. I think there were around 100 people working here in the past. It\u2019s so embedded in the community in everyone\u2019s passing history. It\u2019s been great having the community up here getting involved.
