{"id":286782,"date":"2026-02-08T05:15:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-08T05:15:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/286782\/"},"modified":"2026-02-08T05:15:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-08T05:15:13","slug":"barry-walsh-and-barry-oflynn-hit-net-as-cork-u20-hurlers-defeat-wexford","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/286782\/","title":{"rendered":"Barry Walsh and Barry O&#8217;Flynn hit net as Cork U20 hurlers defeat Wexford"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">\n             Cork 2-21 Wexford 0-18\u00a0\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Noel Furlong\u2019s Cork U20 hurling team comfortably saw off Wexford\u2019s U20s in their challenge match played as the curtain raiser to Cork v Tipperary in the Division 1A Hurling League.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It was a good runout for the Cork U20s, five of last year\u2019s minors featured alongside 10 of last season\u2019s U20s. Barrys Walsh and O\u2019Flynn dispatched the two Cork goals \u2013 one in each half. Wexford had stuck close with Cork up until the goal, though had never managed to lead or draw level.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The first green flag came from a free, as Finn O\u2019Brien was brought down just outside the penalty area, and Barry Walsh drove his free low to the net to leave it 1-12 to 0-10 with 28 minutes played.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/4960922_2_articleinlinemobile_2883221-6I_BB3_7359.jpg\" alt=\"Cork's Barry Walsh scores his side's first goal against Wexford. Picture: INPHO\/Ben Brady<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The second major would not arrive until the 48th minute \u2013 at that stage Cork were already six clear \u2013 but Finn O\u2019Brien and O\u2019Flynn forced a turnover on Corey Ryan and O\u2019Brien set up captain O\u2019Flynn for the close-range finish.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Substitute Craig O\u2019Sullivan announced his arrival at this level with a wonderful effort out wide before tagging on a free that left Cork 2-20 to 0-15 in the clear. Charlie Roark, one of Wexford\u2019s best performers from last season, came off the bench to get just their fourth score of the latter half, but Ballinhassig\u2019s Eoghan O\u2019Shea, another one of last year\u2019s minors, added his name to the scoresheet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Wexford would land the last two points in the closing minutes, but by that stage the result had long been decided.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Two of the five from last year\u2019s minors \u2013 Michael Tadhg Brosnan and Darragh Heavin \u2013 were handed starts, and the Glen Rovers man put in an impressive shift chipping in with 0-2 from wing-back.
