A man is in critical condition in hospital this evening following a horror road crash<\/a> in Co Louth in the early hours of this morning.<\/p>\n

Gardai<\/a> and emergency services were alerted to a serious road traffic collision on the N2 near Funshog in Collon, Louth<\/a> shortly after 3am on Saturday morning, February 7.<\/p>\n

The collision<\/a> involved a car and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, who is a man aged in his 40s, received medical treatment at the scene and he was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where his condition has been described as “critical”.<\/p>\n

The driver of the vehicle, a female aged in her 20s, didn’t suffer any injuries.<\/p>\n

The road was closed on Saturday morning and afternoon to allow for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but it is expected to reopen shortly.<\/p>\n

Gardai have now launched an investigation and have appealed for witnesses, particularly anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the area around the time of the collision, to make contact with authorities.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told the Irish Mirror<\/a>: “Garda\u00ed are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision or were in the area of the N2 near Funshog, Collon, Co. Louth to contact them.<\/p>\n

“Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were in the area between 2:40am and 3:20am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Ardee Garda Station on 041 6853222, Drogheda Garda Station on 041 9874200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”<\/p>\n
