A local resident from Ramelton says that they have \u201cgreat concern\u201d over the area\u2019s road safety, after a number of alleged near-misses with speeding traffic whilst walking.<\/p>\n
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, tells Donegal Daily that the speeding issue along the Aughnish Road, and the road leading past the Swilly Rovers Football Club grounds, has been exacerbated by motorists allegedly not sticking to the 50kph speed limit.<\/p>\n
They say that despite reaching out to local political representatives, no measures have been taken to address the speeding issue in these zones.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am a resident of Ramelton, and have expressed great concern to my local TD\u2019s and Councillors, about the need for speed control on (these) two roads in the town. But as yet I\u2019ve heard little, and no action has been taken,\u201d they told\u00a0Donegal Daily.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got a lot of responses from local politicians, but no follow-up after that.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe two roads regularly have people walking, walking dogs, or people walking, and are at risk of (being run) over, as people don\u2019t respect the speed change to 50kmh.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the resident, the danger is only heightened due to the prevalence of speeding near the Swilly Rovers grounds, where many local children go to training and may be at further risk.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany children go (there) to train, and there have been near misses. It\u2019s only a matter of time before an accident, or fatality happens,\u201d the resident said.<\/p>\n
