Pic: Virgin Media Television<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Are we all dead now?\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/extra.ie\/tag\/ryan-tubridy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan<\/a> asked on the Bookshelf podcast. \u2018Is it RIP humanity? \u201cOh hang on, I\u2019m just going to check ChatGPT, see how our souls are doing.\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n<p>\u2018People have started to lose the ability to form a thought of their own,\u2019 he continued \u2014 before recalling an alarming example where he spoke to friends of his who admitted that they would use ChatGPT before consulting their partners for advice.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I had conversations with people I won\u2019t mention by name, but [had] really disturbing couple of pints on Sunday, where one if not two were saying that they would probably go to ChatGPT before their partner, because ChatGPT has now honed in on their emotional intelligence, and will give them \u201cwhat they need.\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/ChatGPT-2.jpg\" alt=\"Pic: Jakub Porzycki\/NurPhoto via Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-1322301\"  \/>Pic: Jakub Porzycki\/NurPhoto via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Ryan, speaking to his podcast producers off camera, agreed with whatever facial expressions the producers were making, saying: \u2018I know! It\u2019s out of control. I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve used it. Is it an app?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Ryan added that the direction things are going with people who are over-reliant on ChatGPT is alarming, adding that he\u2019d \u2018hate to be a schoolteacher \u2014 I think I\u2019d even hate to be a student now. Do you ChatGPT your way through homework and everything? It must be the answer to everything,\u2019 before lamenting on searching for answers the old-fashioned way.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It used to be Google it, but that\u2019s changed now,\u2019 Ryan said. \u2018Because Google won\u2019t give you [answers].\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018People fall in love with ChatGPT now, have relationships with ChatGPT,\u2019 an astonished Ryan added, before a producer informed him that Google has also begun using AI in its search.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018They\u2019re in cahoots now,\u2019 Ryan joked. \u2018Holy smoke.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>People agreed with Ryan\u2019s anecdotes being terrifying, with one commenting: \u2018God almighty that\u2019s a scary idea. What are people asking that a search engine like Google or similar can\u2019t answer?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Speechless. And that doesn\u2019t happen often. I agree wholeheartedly, Ryan.
