Emmy-winning actress Catherine O’Hara, best known for Schitt\u2019s Creek and Home Alone, died from a pulmonary embolism, according to her death certificate issued by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

The Canadian-born performer died on 30 January at the age of 71<\/a>. The certificate lists rectal cancer as the underlying cause.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Hara was born in Toronto in 1954 and began her career with the Second City comedy troupe, later becoming a breakout star on the influential sketch series SCTV.<\/p>\n

Her film work ranged from Tim Burton\u2019s Beetlejuice to a long list of comedic roles, including collaborations with director Christopher Guest on mockumentaries such as Best in Show and A Mighty Wind.<\/p>\n

She became a household name worldwide as Kate McCallister, the mother of Kevin (Macaulay Culkin), in Home Alone, and later returned for Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.<\/p>\n

In recent years, she earned fresh acclaim for playing Moira Rose in Schitt\u2019s Creek, created by Dan Levy and Eugene Levy. Her performance won her the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2020, along with a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Hara was married to production designer Bo Welch, and they had two sons.<\/p>\n
