We discovered that the issue apparently goes back years, as<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/pixelphone\/thread\/144208141?hl=en&amp;sjid=5326549607039761985-NC\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/pixelphone\/thread\/144208141?hl=en&amp;sjid=5326549607039761985-NC\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> far back as the Pixel 6<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The sound appears to happen randomly when you open or close apps.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"bd505326-2f1e-4d4c-9de1-81734a308ee6-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Between comments and emails, we received similar complaints from Tom&#8217;s Guide readers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;For a while I thought it was rocks hitting my windshield on the freeway,&#8221; reader Adam Roy commented.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Other readers reported that similar issues plagued the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/reviews\/google-pixel-8-pro\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/reviews\/google-pixel-8-pro\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/reviews\/google-pixel-8-pro\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pixel 8 Pro<\/a> and the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/phones\/google-pixel-phones\/google-pixel-9-pro-review\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/phones\/google-pixel-phones\/google-pixel-9-pro-review\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/phones\/google-pixel-phones\/google-pixel-9-pro-review\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pixel 9 Pro<\/a>. Confirming reports we read elsewhere, MoritifedGoose said that it mostly happened when they opened games on their Pixel 9, even with the volume off.<\/p>\n<p>For a while I thought it was rocks hitting my windshield on the freeway.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Roy<\/p>\n<p id=\"78061c0c-522e-430f-9fbe-43b697a03d5f\">The oldest device reported to us was the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/reviews\/google-pixel-7-pro\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/reviews\/google-pixel-7-pro\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/reviews\/google-pixel-7-pro\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pixel 7 Pro<\/a>, on which the popping sound appeared only while they were using TikTok.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thought either there was something wrong with a software update, hardware, or Voice Assistant listening in, but never could get it to stop,&#8221; reader KrankyKorok said.<\/p>\n<p>One reader emailed to report the issue and said they resolved it by lowering the volume.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve got the 9 Pro XL myself, and I have noticed this problem as well. While researching the issue, we did reach out to Google about the popping issue, but we have yet to hear from the company.<\/p>\n<p>Digging through official support forums and subreddits, I couldn&#8217;t find any instances of Google support or mods responding with solutions or suggestions.<\/p>\n<p>One &#8220;Silver product expert&#8221; on the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/pixelphone\/thread\/369339091\/my-phone-pops?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/pixelphone\/thread\/369339091\/my-phone-pops?hl=en\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Google support forums suggested <\/a>the sound was due to &#8220;the floating element of the camera stabilisation system,&#8221; which can produce such sounds, and asserted it was &#8220;normal for Pixel devices.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-48000557-e3c9-47a6-b5c3-cf518170a063\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/>Other suggestions<\/p>\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:57.27%;\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/nuSYawk365khpxeJKf8YmU.jpg\" alt=\"Google Pixel 6 Pro case\"   loading=\"lazy\" data-new-v2-image=\"true\" data-original-mos=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/nuSYawk365khpxeJKf8YmU.jpg\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/nuSYawk365khpxeJKf8YmU.jpg\" class=\"inline\"\/>\n<\/p>\n<p>(Image credit: Evan Blass)<\/p>\n<p id=\"b380324c-fa34-4ba3-97c5-0187c2c8af46\">I&#8217;ve seen suggestions that it&#8217;s something to do with the apps themselves, which might be a developer issue.
