{"id":291447,"date":"2026-02-11T00:52:15","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T00:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/291447\/"},"modified":"2026-02-11T00:52:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T00:52:15","slug":"new-management-but-no-upheaval-for-bride-rovers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/291447\/","title":{"rendered":"New management but no upheaval for Bride Rovers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">While there are some changes to the Bride Rovers management team as they look to settle into life at premier senior level, there won\u2019t be a shortage of familiarity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Having led the Rathcormac\/Bartlemy club to victory in last year\u2019s Co-op SuperStores SAHC, two-time All-Ireland hurling winner Brian Murphy has stepped down as manager, but Stephen Glasgow remains as coach while new boss Liam Barry has served in that role previously and has worked with a number of panel members at under-age level.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Jamie Peters, who has retired from playing with the club\u2019s first team, take up a selectorial post, with Alan Fitzgerald and Frank Hogan involved too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">For David Barry, who scored the winning point in the final replay against Castlelyons, earning success under Murphy was special for everyone but he is looking forward to building on that with the new management group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI can remember going to school in Rathcormac and Brian used to always do training with us on Friday evenings,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI suppose he was our main man \u2013 sure, he obviously has two All-Ireland medals and it was a case of if Brian Murphy said something, if he&#8217;d asked us to jump, how high would we go? <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHe was definitely a big asset to have, obviously he&#8217;s gone this year but Liam Barry, he&#8217;s great as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cLiam was there in 2021 \u2013 I was too young to play then \u2013 but in 2022 and 2023 he was there and Glasgow was there last year and he had the lads at U21, it would have been Ryan Prendergast and Shane Walsh\u2019s age and Brian and Eoin Roche were able to play that age.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cGlasgow had my age minor as well in 2021, with Brian Murphy, so there\u2019s a lot of continuity and we\u2019ve all worked with him before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cAlan Fitz was with Brian, Eoin, Conor [Barry], Conleith [Ryan], Paddy [O\u2019Flynn], up from U15s to minor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/4963682_1_articleinline_Bride_20Rovers_20100_20Club_20launch_20_4_.jpg\" alt=\"Liam Barry (left) and Neven Butler at the launch of Bride Rovers Club 100 in 2018. Picture: Gavin Browne<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Peters transitioning from corner-back to selector serves to further reduce the average of the team, with time on the Rovers\u2019 side as they step up to the top tier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cOut of the starters in the county final, Shane O&#8217;Connor&#8217;s the oldest and he\u2019s 28 this year,\u201d Barry says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHe was man of the match in the drawn county final and he\u2019s a fair horse of a man, he\u2019s definitely not slowing down!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The draw for 2026 has placed them in a group with last year\u2019s beaten county finalists Midleton, semi-finalists St Finbarr\u2019s and Newcestown, who they beat in last year\u2019s RedFM Hurling League Division 3 final, after extra time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">With Division 2 hurling to look forward to as preparation for what lies ahead, the mood is positive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIt\u2019s a tough group,\u201d Barry says, \u201cbut Newcestown showed their mettle last year, they drew with Midleton and we beat Newcestown in the league final, so there definitely is promise, you\u2019d hope. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cLike, we&#8217;ll definitely be going into every game saying, \u2018We can come in here and we can get two points on the board here, we can get a result. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHopefully now we can just keep the momentum forward and keep rolling with the punches.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"While there are some changes to the Bride Rovers management team as they look to settle into life&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":291448,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[1964,61,60,112],"class_list":{"0":"post-291447","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-sports","8":"tag-cork-gaa","9":"tag-ie","10":"tag-ireland","11":"tag-sports"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/291447","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=291447"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/291447\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/291448"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=291447"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=291447"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=291447"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
