\n\tRhys Darby is set for a lead role in the CBS<\/a> comedy pilot \u201cRegency,\u201d Variety has learned. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe multi-cam comedy pilot was originally ordered back in December<\/a>. The official logline describes it as \u201ca historical spin on the classic multi-cam family sitcom, centered around the upper-middle class Tillbrooks as they navigate life, love, and scandal in 19th Century England.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDarby will star as Arthur Tillbrook, who is described as the \u201chead of the family home, Hartford Park. Arthur is heir to a vast cheese empire but prefers to think of himself as a \u2018guy\u2019s guy.\u2019 He will go to great lengths to prove his masculinity, though his privileged upbringing reveals itself every time.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tShould \u201cRegency\u201d go forward, it would be the second period comedy series that Darby has starred in in recent years. He previously starred in the HBO Max series \u201cOur Flag Means Death,\u201d in which he played a fictionalized version of the real 18th century pirate Stede Bonnet. The show aired two seasons at the streamer. <\/p>\n

\n\tDarby is best known for playing band manager\/consulate employee Murray in the HBO comedy \u201cFlight of the Conchords,\u201d while he has also been in shows like \u201cWrecked,\u201d \u201cThe X-Files,\u201d and \u201cFresh Off the Boat.\u201d In film, he is known for his appearance in the mockumentary \u201cWhat We Do in the Shadows\u201d as well as features like the rebooted \u201cJumanji\u201d franchise, \u201cGuns Akimbo,\u201d and \u201cYes Man.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe is repped by UTA, Artists First, and Yorn Levine Barnes. <\/p>\n

\n\tTara Hernandez is the writer and executive producer behind \u201cRegency.\u201d Warner Bros. Television is the studio. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cRegency\u201d is currently one of just two pilots that CBS has in contention for next season.
