European Union leaders will brainstorm tomorrow on how to help Europe compete with the US \u2060and China and become more autonomous by strengthening the bloc’s economy.<\/p>\n
The European Commission has dubbed the main barriers to creating a stronger EU single market the “Terrible Ten” and said removing them should be a priority.<\/p>\n
1 – Complicated business establishment and operations – High hurdles for setting up and running businesses \u200cacross borders.<\/p>\n
2 – Overly \u2060complex EU rules – EU laws sometimes contradict each other.<\/p>\n
3 – Lack of Single Market ownership – EU governments do not enforce or integrate common rules they agreed on.<\/p>\n
4 – Limited recognition of professional qualifications – orkers cannot \u200ceasily move between countries because their diplomas\/degrees are not recognised across borders.<\/p>\n
5 – Lack \u2060of common standards – Technical or quality requirements differ from \u200ccountry to country.<\/p>\n
6 – Fragmented rules on packaging, labelling, \u2060and waste – Diverging \u200cnational, often environmental, regulations.<\/p>\n
7 – Lack of product compliance – there are often different product standards among the 27 EU countries.<\/p>\n
8 – Restrictive national \u2060service regulations – Because of different laws, service companies cannot do \u2060business across borders.<\/p>\n
9 – Burdensome posting of workers – Political sensitivity related to accepting workers from other EU countries and high, related administrative costs limit cross-border employment.<\/p>\n
