The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has banned 21
\nunapproved mobile phone brands from the market, warning that they pose a safety
\nand health risk to the users.<\/p>\n

CA Director General David Mugonyi, in a notice issued on
\nTuesday, cautioned against an influx of the said mobile phone brands, which he
\nreferred as non-type approved.<\/p>\n

Among them are: Tinsik, Realfone, F+, Fonrox, Mez, Nemojo,
\nVue, Bundy, Qqmee, U-FM, Chatada, Superx, and Momofly.<\/p>\n

The other flagged phone brands are: WR, X Oda, Smba, Q-Seven,
\nUgbad, FT, Raeno, and Switch.<\/p>\n

The authority hence cautioned members of the public against purchasing
\nthe listed brands, further barring vendors against selling them.<\/p>\n

Mugonyi further urged Kenyans to only buy mobile phones from
\nlicensed vendors available, also noting that they should verify the approval
\nstatus of the said gadgets on the CA website.<\/p>\n

\u201cCheck the authenticity of the mobile phones before purchase,
\nby dialing *#06# and sending the 15-digit IMEI number as an SMS to 1555, or on
\nthe CA website free of charge,\u201d stated Mugonyi.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Authority, through a Type Approval process, ensures that
\nall ICT devices comply with national and international standards related to
\nsafety, health and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), thereby protecting
\nconsumers from hazardous products, minimizing health risks and preventing
