{"id":294225,"date":"2026-02-12T13:07:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T13:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/294225\/"},"modified":"2026-02-12T13:07:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T13:07:09","slug":"mcgregor-issued-compliance-notice-for-breaking-consumer-protection-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/294225\/","title":{"rendered":"McGregor issued compliance notice for breaking consumer protection legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Conor McGregor has been issued a compliance notice for breaches of consumer protection legislation.<\/p>\n<p>The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission published details of the case among 18 enforcement actions taken against traders and other influencers, including Suzanne Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>For McGregor, the CCPC said he engaged in a \u201cprohibited commercial practice\u201d by failing to disclose that products related to Forged Irish Stout, which were promoted on his Instagram account, were not disclosed as paid content with appropriate labels.<\/p>\n<p>The mixed martial arts fighter was told: \u201cYou, Conor McGregor, a trader, are hereby directed to ensure that, in all futures instances, where a trader has paid you to use editorial content in the media to promote a product or service, you make it clear that such promotion is a paid promotion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Jackson was found to failed to use appropriate labels to disclose the commercial nature of the content published, relating to Sosu Cosmetics.<\/p>\n<p>Both were told that disclosure on paid products relates to \u201cown brand\u201d products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou may achieve this by using clear and appropriate primary disclosure labels such as \u2018Ad\u2019 or \u2018#Ad\u2019. Using secondary disclosure labels such as \u2018Own Brand\u2019 or \u2018#OwnBrand\u2019, in addition to primary disclosure labels, is at your own discretion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Kenny, member of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) said: \u201cWhether you\u2019re a retailer, a publican or an influencer, you must comply with consumer law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur officers carry out hundreds of in-store and online inspections, sweeps and investigations every year, assessing thousands of products and transactions to make sure consumer rights are upheld across the economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A compliance notice is a written legal notice that the CCPC can issue to a trader who has committed or is currently committing a prohibited act or practice.<\/p>\n<p>Failure to obey a compliance notice is an offence, and the CCPC said it will prosecute those who do not correct their practices.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"not-prose no-underline\" data-action=\"click\" data-category=\"Read more article clicked\" data-label=\"https:\/\/www.breakingnews.ie\/ireland\/over-1600-stis-recorded-in-ireland-since-january-1864251.html\" data-value=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breakingnews.ie\/ireland\/over-1600-stis-recorded-in-ireland-since-january-1864251.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2657246-8-seoimage16x9-hselogo-1-768x432-1.jpg\" class=\"rounded-sm object-contain bg-transparent z-10 w-full h-full not-prose\" alt=\"Over 1,600 Stis Recorded In Ireland Since January\" width=\"278\" height=\"156\" \/><\/p>\n<p>        Ireland<\/p>\n<p>Over 1,600 STIs recorded in Ireland since January<\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The CCPC has long called for stronger enforcement powers, and the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment (DETE) recently launched a public consultation on proposed legislation that would, among other measures, allow the CCPC to issue direct fines for serious or repeated breaches.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kenny said: \u201cWe look forward to the introduction of direct fining powers for the CCPC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ability to issue significant fines is an essential addition to our enforcement toolkit.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Conor McGregor has been issued a compliance notice for breaches of consumer protection legislation.
